Daily Inspiration: Meet Marie Cloud

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marie Cloud.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always had a knack for creativity and appreciate visual aesthetics. My mom was was intentional about exposing us different lifestyles in hopes of inspiring us toward success. Through that, she would take me to view beautiful homes in “nice neighborhoods.” I was obsessed with the homes and the beauty. I went off to college, attending Bowling Green State University, where I initially jumped into their architecture program. After attending a career expo, I decided to change my major to interior design. I earned an internship with a large firm in Cleveland, OH (my hometown), where I stay on post-graduation. I later relocated to Charlotte and worked for Sherwin Williams for a number of years. In 2018, Indigo Pruitt Design Studio was born and I have been serving the homes and commercial spaces of Charlotte and surrounding areas ever since.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. Entrepreneurship is hard, very hard! This industry has its ebbs and flows so it takes a lot of strategy and creative thinking to set yourself apart. Not to mention that of all the Interior designers in the US only 2% are African American (mindblowing). I think the biggest struggle has been staying focused on “showing up anyway.” Regardless of the previous statistic, regardless of the pandemic, regardless of societal unrest, regardless of emotional weight, regardless of it all…show up anyway. And then show out! lol

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the owner and Principal Designer of Indigo Pruitt Design Studio. An interior design firm specializing in life-giving designs and is known for its blended style approach to aesthetics. My design approach is typically the blending styles to create a new aesthetic. My projects have a fresh modern flair paired with classic and timeless elements. Cultural touches help define this story-telling aesthetic. I’m drawn to the boldness of boutique hotels and often find inspiration from as I travel. Adding personal touches and story-telling elements. I aim for my spaces to embody the soul of its owner and the essence of what home means to them. There is something special about a room that not only looks good but also makes your soul dance and your heart sing with its boldness. Whether it’s creating lasting relationships with clients or designing their homes, it’s truly a joy to be able to blissfully design the life (and spaces) that express the beauty of life itself. I’m most proud of so many things but the fact that Indigo Pruitt stands as a brand that is rooted in authenticity, beauty and relationship is something that truly brings me joy.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Don’t be afraid to ask! And don’t let a “no” prevent you from asking someone else. ASK FOR WHAT YOU WANT.
