Hi Carlie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! My name is Carlie Maxine. I was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. I am a mother, a creative, and free spirit wrapped into one ! Thank you so much for having me!
My passion for hair began at a very young age. As a little girl, I always enjoyed going to the salon. Watching the stylist create beautiful hairstyles taught me that hair is truly another form of art. I couldn’t wait to get home and practice what I observed on my dolls. As I got older, my mother and sister allowed me to practice on them, along with friends, family members, and even my parent’s coworkers! My clientele grew during my high school career. I knew that becoming a licensed Cosmetologist was a goal for me!
During my college career, I attended Jacksonville State University with a concentration in Accounting and Criminal Justice. Despite my focus on the two subjects, hair was always on my mind. After class, I would do my schoolmates hair and even some of the locals in the city.
After five beautiful years in college, I decided to move back home to Birmingham, Alabama and enroll in Cosmetology School at Aveda. I was offered a job by my first cousin, LaShawn Hill who is the owner of Natural Elements Hair Salon. This opportunity opened the door to my current success today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I am thankful to say that becoming an entrepreneur was not a turbulent road. With new opportunities come new challenges and new blessings. Working in the salon with my family taught me the ins and outs of the beauty industry with love and professionalism.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a currently a 10-year licensed cosmetologist specializing in natural hair.
I am primarily known for healthy hair care, silk press, hair extension services and protective styles such as ponytails or rod sets .
I am most proud of the healthy relationships that I have with each and every one of my clients. I am blessed to live a life where my passion is also my career.
What sets me apart from other Cosmetologists is my heart and spirit. I genuinely care about my clients, especially in regard to them achieving their personal hair goals. I love to educate and create awareness. When my clients thank me for their hair success, I always thank them in return. A healthy hair journey requires teamwork! My clients trust me and I trust them.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
When it comes to luck in my life and business, I can say with no hesitation that I am blessed beyond measure. Every learning curve taught me more about myself and the variations of how the world works. The morals and values I abide by in my personal life have made my career path joyful and abundant.
