Today we’d like to introduce you to La’Chaiel Johnson.
Hi La’Chaiel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am the owner of LA’s Glam Bar LLC. We are a skincare and body waxing spa that provides products, services, knowledge and experience for men and women to reach their skincare goals and also have a place to call their safe place. I started my business in 2020 during Covid; it was almost like the universe forced my hand.
I thought because I was a healthcare worker(nurse) that my job was essential but oh how quickly did I find out I was wrong. Weeks being home no work, no pay I decided I guess now is the time to start up my business. I started off selling mink strip lashes which turned into me doing individual lashes which then turned into me being a Licensed Professional Esthetician. I always knew as a young child I would own a business one day but I would be lying if I said I knew exactly what my business would be. I honestly did not think skin care and body waxing would be my business, all of my years in the medical field I asked God to place me in a job where I can have a voice where I can offer knowledge to people and my voice will be heard. The medical field did take a toll on me after a while seeing so many people come in and on so much medicine or feeling embarrassed to speak about their health or concerns because they knew they were not going to be taken seriously or treated properly. I must say I’ve experienced that on multiple occasions and sadly I still do.
I made it my goal to take everything I’ve learned from my medical experience, personal life, and esthetics school and combine it all to provide the best spa not just for the experience but for those to come in and ask questions about anything concerning their body, for those to speak their mind, for those to leave with knowledge and understanding of their skin, physical health, mental health and how to speak up for themselves at their appointments. I’m proud to say we’ve reached plenty of women and men and have encouraged them to be an advocate for their body in all aspects. I’m very grateful for where I am today it was a time where I did not think I would make it to age 21 because of all my health issues not being taking seriously by professionals. Like I tell my clients I’m not just fighting for me I’m fighting for all of us and the fight is not over! Keep going the road is long but the journey is short when you know “why” you’re doing it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It most certainly have not been a smooth road. As stated I started my business in 2020, we all know that was the year of Covid 19. Outside of Covid, it was just the normal struggles of opening a business like gaining clientele, support, having imposter syndrome, funding, content, working being in school and making time for personal life, the list goes on and on. What I will say it seems like when you’re ready to throw the towel in and I mean just at the brink of raising that towel in the air, you get your breakthrough. I must give flowers to my husband because he stayed by my side and positive through the obstacles and challenges and supported me in school, thank you babe I love you.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
LA’s Glam Bar is a Black Owned Women company who offers services to men and women. We specialize in Brazilians, Vajacials, Yoni Steams, Back Facials and Facials. I believe we are known for our amazing Brazilians and body services. What sets my brand and I apart from others is not a lot of Estheticians have a medical background so that puts me at an advantage and I use it in my treatment room. I take the time to carefully examine my client’s skin especially my returns to make sure nothing unusual has appeared or changed. I will also say another thing that sets me apart is I get personal with my clients; they are my family. I give them the honest truth and hard love, most of my client’s concerns I dealt with in and on my own body too so I always use myself as an example to lighten their spirits. The thing I am most proud about is knowing I’ve created a culture, space and community where others put their trust in me and push me to be better daily. If you are reading this, I want you to know no dream is to big, no skin concern is an embarrassment, no pay grade is important, you’re life matters, educate yourself, be your own advocate, love the body your in and most importantly put God first in everything you do.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is growing up riding horses, dirt bikes and four-wheelers in the country with my siblings and cousins daily…
