Meet Howard Kurtzman of HowardofHoward

Today we’d like to introduce you to Howard Kurtzman.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Howard. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a self-taught artist, who was encouraged to paint by a close friend. Life and near death experiences, a lightning strike, a hold at gunpoint, a venomous sting to the head, and wondrous moments in nature, inspire my work. The intense passion to create produces my wild, vivid, imaginary, whimsical, sexy pieces of art. The road ahead is unpredictable. There is a painting ready to diagram the past queuing in my head.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been anything but smooth. My art certainly has a niche market. I suppose all art has it’s following. My paintings have been my outlet for all the good, bad and unusual moments in my life. The rejection I have faced has been a constant drive to push forward and to have “I’ll show them” determination. Rejection and the way it is delivered can be shattering to a delicate ego. I’m never sure how I pick myself up again and go on to the next obstacle.

I think that time I died once really changed things for me. It made me try harder to put myself on the map! Looking back, I have been very fortunate to have sold so many paintings. I am grateful to so many people who love my art. I would not be at this point without their support, encouragement, and generosity.

Each canvas is covered with hand-mixed colors, a life experience and perhaps a drop of Tequila. Every piece is unique, has a story behind it, has a memory attached. I infuse every piece with my entire being. My struggles, my joy are in the eye of the beholder.

Please tell us about HowardofHoward.
I’m self-taught, I use high-quality products. I am meticulous in my skill. I may paint within the lines, I dare anyone to reproduce my clean style. Every color on any canvas is handmade by me. I do not have a recipe, I do not document my ratio, I fly by the seat of my pants. I am focused, spontaneous, driven, prolific and streamlined. I always meet a deadline, I always accept a challenge. If my name appears on my painting, it means it has gained inspector number 4’s approval. Of my technique, style, creativity and finished product I am most proud.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Not a thing.
