Today we’d like to introduce you to Tori Mosley.
Tori, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The Stori all began out of an obsessive passion to spark life back into a dying art. I wanted to resurrect the art of handcrafting leather goods while curating pieces that didn’t follow the path of your traditional leather goods. I knew there were people out there like myself that cared dearly about quality and craftsmanship; people who didn’t want to own 100s of bags or belts but instead one amazing piece that would last a lifetime. A piece that would age gracefully and build its own unique character allowing them to tell their own story. This is what sparked the idea for the Smith wallet which is where Stori came to life!
Launching a Kickstarter back in 2015 that was 120%+ to goal https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/storidrygoodsco/the-smith-handcrafted-wallet-by-stori-dry-goods-co .
At this point, I was confident that Stori was lifestyle brand that people sought out. In a world of planned obsolescence and cheap products, Stori was a change of pace; a disrupting brand that the industry not only needed but wanted. Placing quality and craftsmanship before any and everything else and guaranteeing every piece for a lifetime. Allowing each and every person to buy with confidence knowing that you will be able to # TellYourStori.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with any business, there will be obstacles, a lot of which you can’t account for and you have to power through. For Stori, an obstacle we fight daily is finding the right consumer. Someone who wants the best of the best. A person that wants to buy one great piece instead of owning 10s or 100s of lesser quality pieces.
Please tell us about Stori Dry Goods Co..
Every piece is cut, beveled, burnished, and sewn entirely by hand utilizing a saddle stitch which is substantially stronger than a typical sewing machine stitch. Hand stitching also provides a distinct look that also can’t be replicated on a sewing machine, making each piece extremely unique.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Spending my weekends at my grandmothers learning how to cook and bake from scratch and admiring the tools she used. I’ll never forget the well-aged iron skillet she used to cook breakfast on every Sunday, and the hand crank sifter used to sift flour for her famous chocolate chip bundt cake.
