Rising Stars: Meet Jaanna Anaemereibe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaanna Anaemereibe.

Hi Jaanna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Since 2006 I’ve been engulfed in storytelling, which eventually turned into illustrating my stories on film in 2011. In 2017, I was writing treatments and directing music videos and I noticed the common theme I would fall into is trying to make them cinematic along with creating a short film aesthetic. I wasn’t able to fulfill this vision due to budgets or lack of time with clients but I still had this desire to create more. This drive to create films has been link to me since then, which is why I have Basher Visuals. It’s way more than a production company for me, it’s the imaginative world I live in when I close my eyes, it’s the factory to bring all my ideas to life. I’ve written and acted in all of the projects under the Basher Visuals umbrella because of that.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
A smooth road? Not in the slightest. Any idea how much money I’ve spent investing in this company? The lack of sleep I get on the regular investing in my dream while dealing with my reality? Prime example, I’m answering this question at 6:07 in the morning because I was in the office until 4 am working on my next upcoming show CHIKE’S TRIBE. A smooth road is the furthest thing from the rocky road I drive on, but it’s the road I chose and it’s one worth driving. Only because of where it’s leading me to.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Writer, Director, Producer, and Actor. I’ve gotten some recognition and awards for my films and my acting skills, but I’d say my specialty would be in writing. I have a short film called Ray’s Confession that’s about 20 minutes of dialogue, for me, whenever I watch it I’m still blown away by the characters Mya Morton and I brought to life. I say that because I wrote that script in 8 hours, and we shot the film for a total of 3 nights straight. The film isn’t perfect, but the dialogue in there is so raw and relatable, you can’t help but see it through. That’s what sets me apart from others, any idea I put out doesn’t just get put in motion, it gets completed, I’m never worried about perfection, I’m focused on completion.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The moment you’ve made excuses for why you can’t create is the moment you’ve lost. Silence; even destroy the negativity and doubt in your brain, buckle down and get to work. People will only help you if they see that your vision will come to life regardless of their assistance.
