Daily Inspiration: Meet Stacey Doyle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Doyle.

Hi Stacey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
About 10 years ago, I went through a hellacious time and found myself traveling back to the states from living overseas, as a newly single mother with three young children, seven suitcases, and $500 to my name. I needed to take care of my kids and didn’t have any time to waste.

A friend of mine, who is a web developer, offered to teach me how to design websites. She insisted the best way to learn was to play around with my own website hands-on. I really didn’t know what kind of website to build, but I knew that I loved to cook and enjoyed photography. That’s when my food blog was born, Little Figgy Food.

I learned a lot about website development but realized how much more I loved working on my food blog. From there I dug my heels in and continued to learn everything I could about running a website, blogging, styling food, and food photography. Eventually, my then passion turned business started to land jobs working with brands, from sponsored work to meeting chefs to becoming a freelance food stylist and culinary producer.

I’ve since built a business out of what were once only hobbies and have turned them into becoming a passionate food stylist and photographer. I’ve been blessed to be able to work on various projects in print and digital, to commercials and cooking shows.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road less traveled is very bumpy indeed with plenty of potholes along the way! Working freelance means hustling, and hustling can be exhausting at times, that has been a huge pain point, getting myself out there.

I’m one of those extroverted introverts! In other words, I’m actually a very shy person but I can pull my weight in a crowd if needed without anyone knowing that I’m a wallflower at heart. That would be the root of my biggest struggle, overcoming what some may call “imposter syndrome” and believing in myself – that I have what it takes.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a mixed bag of a creative in the food world!

The food photographer side of me loves to chase and shape light, edit, and adores those gorgeous shadows, bringing out the beauty of food in each image. I create imagery, stills (photos), and stop motion (GIFs), for brands.

The food stylist and culinary producer side of me specialize in creating various editorial, lifestyle, and even art out of food for brands. I’ve worked on many projects, including print, digital, and in production. I’d have to say that what I’m most proud of isn’t as much the work I’ve produced, as much as it is really being grateful. Grateful I’ve taken my passion and formed it into a business that allows me to work and connect with some of the most talented crew.

As a photographer, I’m able to understand what the camera sees. As a prop and food stylist, I”m able to pull it all together. But what I believe sets me apart is not only my work ethic and style but it is the ability to take the client’s creative ideas, understand their brand voice, and capture what they envisioned.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Anyone or any brand or restaurant can work and collaborate with me that has a food-based project. Be that in production for commercials or cooking shows, print or digital, sponsored work with a food blog or social media, or if they are in need of photography for their next cookbook, I’m here for them.
