Today we’d like to introduce you to Sasha Rose.
Hi Sasha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
“I don’t do fashion. I am fashion.” — Coco Chanel
That’s the quote that I’ll forever live by! Fashion for me is much deeper than passion, love or even lust! I am programmed to exude fashion & everything that it represents since I was young. The way it allows you to speak without even having to say a word, helping you express yourself & tell your story for that moment in time. Whether it’s fast fashion, haute couture, custom 1of1’s, high fashion & even the Internet trends, I absolutely love the culture of it all. I as of 2017 started to categorize my art as a fashion stylist after learning that there was an actual name for what I’m doing for my family & friends & a way for me to make a career & get paid to do what I love. It just was a matter of how, when, where & what to do.
So I made my plan, In 2019 I started doing my own freelance photo shoots showcasing myself as my model. I styled myself, found locations & built my own sets. I sourced & connected with a photographer in my area & we got to work. At this time I still didn’t really have an end game for this portfolio, I just knew that it was necessary. So After about 5-6 months of consistent shoots, I was scrolling on Instagram & I saw an ad for “The Misa Hylton Fashion Academy,” Now, Ms. Hylton is somebody you NEED to know if your in the fashion industry & if you don’t know who Ms. Hylton is please put some respect on her name & Google her! Anyways, so I noticed that the academy was hosting an open house the very next day so I on a whim, attended.
Little did I know that decision would change my life forever. I applied at the open house, was then invited to interview for Ms. Hylton for a position to attend her academy. I mentally wasn’t prepared, but I had my portfolio in hand and I pitched myself. I was accepted & that’s when my entire mindset on fashion & business elevated. I was fortunate enough to meet & connect with amazing like-minded individuals like myself, work on some great projects which then opened even more doors to explore different lanes in fashion.
So today in 2022, my story is still being written. Stay tuned!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road, but in reality when you have to go through obstacles to achieve or accomplish the things you dream of or love to do you’ll appreciate it that much more when it’s aligned. I’m a mother of 2 young boys & trying to live your dreams while working a regular 9-5 to maintain life & bills, on top of parenting, on top of making sure to still make time for myself, then adding my own unrealistic expectations about my styling career to the mix, and last but certainly not least social media is the cherry on top. I think as creatives, we allow social media to unknowingly rush us, to unknowingly compete or compare each other’s journeys and it’s unnecessary. Some days are easier than others, but having faith in god, knowing that this is all for my sons, having a solid support system & knowing “this too shall pass” has gotten me through the darkest of days during this journey.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a fashion stylist, I specialize in details & accessories. Mainly my styling has been freelance & celebrity based, but I’m currently transitioning into TV & Film. I’ve interned & sourced for some amazing projects with celebrity stylists & some up & coming stylists like myself ranging from brand campaigns to award shows. My freelance clients range from daycare owners, real estate agents, social media influencers, reality tv stars, lawyers and the list goes on.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
