Today we’d like to introduce you to Renata Johnson.
Hi Renata, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my travel business in 2021 but my passion for travel started young. After going on my first trip with my mother, I knew I had to see the world. When I was 14, my mother had a brain aneurysm. So, there was no more trips or family moments. That’s when I knew I wouldn’t stay in the little town of Kalamazoo, MI.
Since moving at the age of 18, I’ve been to most of the United States, Virgin Islands, Bahamas and Mexico. That fueled my fire to make travel accessible to all. So, I started Dream Excursions Travel Agency. Not only do (I) create magical vacations experiences, I empower people to run a travel business as well(!) This has been a life-changing experience for me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely been some bumps in the road. Both of my parents passed away in 2021, so it was really hard to stay focus. I was depressed and couldn’t get out the bed some days. However, I snapped out of it and knew I had to get to work. I’ve been a thriving force since.
Support was another hurdle. Most people start off their travel business by booking friends and family. Well, I didn’t have any to book. Everyone was booking their own travel and wouldn’t give me the opportunity. Now, I have booked some amazing vacations and those (same) people (who said no) reach out. I’m happy to book but it doesn’t go unnoticed.
The last hurdle is balance. I’m married with 3 gorgeous children and 3 fur babies. I have to make sure I make time for family just as much as travel. Sometimes, it’s hard. I want to work all night but I have to remember to balance. I feel like it will be a higher hurdle as things continue to progress.

I’m a minority-based travel that is dedicating to making travel accessible to everyone. From payment plans to super deals, we make finding the perfect vacation seamless. We offer group travel for major events that promote networking, fun and partying. Having the trip of your life is our goal! We are faith-based, lgbtq and lifestyle friendly. We cater to all walks of life.
Any big plans?
We are throwing a huge party bus to Essence fest in New Orleans June 2023 from Atlanta. We will be expanding our group trips to explore the Jamacia, Dubai, and Dominican Republic. We are planning group annual cruises.
