Today we’d like to introduce you to 3 Brothers No Sense.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We have been hanging together since high school. So over those 20 years, we have grown from being just friends to family. Brothers! We always had great conversations and different perspectives. So we wanted to start a podcast that gives everyone a glimpse into our thoughts and to create a space that was open and honest. We chose to make the show barbershop style because we feel like in the black community, the barber shop is traditionally where black men can be the most open and honest. So we say what we think and don’t hold back. Ferg is the voice of reason. He loves everything Black and quarterbacks the show. Byron is the storyteller and dream weaver that will have you hanging on to every word. And finally, Razi is the wildcard. He can wow you with his intellect one moment and totally miss a point the next. Putting all three of us on a show together created something that was greater than the sum of its parts. The show has taken off and is growing faster than we could have imagined. We have been mentioned on every major news outlet and have been featured on documentaries on HBO. We are grateful for the past growth and look forward to the future growth of the show.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Our first show had 11 listens. But that has consistently grown and now we are syndicated on NSPIRE U on air; an online radio station that is listened to worldwide. Along the journey, we also have had many personal losses that made us question whether the time we spend on the show is actually time well spent. But we all use the show as a form of therapy and release. We can get on the show and talk about what’s on our minds that week and get it out. The other struggle is always toeing the line of being entertainment and trying to inform. We tackle serious content at times. We don’t want to make it dull but want to ensure that it is given the correct reverence. Overall the ride has been fun and we wouldn’t change it.
As you know, we’re big fans of 3 Brothers No sense. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a barbershop podcast that tackles everything from sports to music to politics. Just like a barbershop, any conversation is welcome and no topic is taboo. What sets us apart is the breadth of knowledge and experience of our hosts. We have military veterans, law enforcement, medical, sales, human resources, business consulting, sports referees, and political insiders (just to name a few) all rolled into three hosts. Since we are three brothers with very different life experiences, we can bring multiple perspectives and disagree while respecting each other. We are proud of the brand that we have created. We hope that our listeners walk away entertained while knowing more than they did when they started listening.
What does success mean to you?
We define success as being happy with what we created. We don’t have to have a million listeners if we listen to the show and can say, “that was a good conversation.” But a million listeners is always good as well!
