Today we’d like to introduce you to Jashanna McQueen.
Hi Jashanna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started acting in 2008 at a performing arts high school in Miami, FL. During my years of training and skill development, I learned what it meant to be consistent, dedicated, and open to the art of storytelling. I left high school with sharpened skills, knowledge, and a connection to the artist that lives within me. In 2016, I moved to Atlanta, GA in pursuit of higher learning in the film and television industry. I’ve attended seminars, film festivals, and panel discussions to expand my education as a filmmaker and actor. Shortly after my independent studies, I was inspired to start my own company. I launched Leo Blu Productions in 2019. My sister, K. Lene Noel, and I co-wrote my first short film project entitled, Two Sides of a Story. From there, I gained a skillset in producing, financial management, set control, and business ownership. Since its inception, Leo Blu Productions has produced over three films. Also, I’ve played the role of writer, producer, and/or director on other independent productions. Currently, I am developing a slate of films and TV shows that will start expanding my business on a larger scale in the industry.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. It has been a confusing, lack of direction, and frustrating road. I never assumed this journey would be easy, but I didn’t think it would be like this. Moving to Atlanta at 22 was the riskiest thing that I did. I struggled with maintaining stability and courage in a new city. I’ve struggled mentally to maintain a clear mind and open heart. There are so many moments of disappointment and rejection it’s hard not to doubt your aspirations. I’ve learned the power of mediation and journaling. Whenever I’ve been uninspired or unmotivated, I would journal my thoughts and feelings to release them. I’ve learned the value of community and support. I’ve struggled with booking gigs, being consistent, and developing my artistry but the people around me have inspired me to stay the course.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a production company owner. I am a director, writer, producer, and actor. I specialize in storytelling, character development, set decoration, screenplay writing, acting, set management, casting, marketing, script consultations, production communication, and financial management. I am proudest of my ambition, high spirit, and operating production company. I’ve established myself as a multi-versed artist. I am inspired by those who know who they are and not afraid to be who they are. What sets me apart is knowing and accepting the artist that I am. My vision is vivid and clear. I created my own path by listening to my voice and defining my artistry.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memories were the moments my imagination came to life. I used was play in my big sister’s high heels and perform on my make-believe stage. I would have my classroom with my imaginative students and assignments. I’d pretend I’m in the scene of the movies that I was watching. All of the moments where I allowed my imagination to run wild.
