Today we’d like to introduce you to Beauty Couch.
Hi Beauty, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hello, my name is Beauty Couch but I go by Beauty Katera. I am 21 and I’m a roller skater. I’ve been skating for one year and 9 months now. Most people would say I’m a Covid skater since I started in 2021. My skate journey has been a rollercoaster but I am here today by the grace of God and an amazing support system. Skating saved me from many personal issues I deal with on a daily basis. At first, skating was just for fun, it help me cope and escape from my thoughts. A few months in I met three individuals Ham, Solo and Zemo and they showed me the impact I could make on social media. From there, I loved showing the world the wonders and creativity of roller skating. Skating isn’t just 8 wheels and music and going around in circles for me it’s art I express my emotions by combing dance and skating and formulating a story. I love it so much I could skate from sundown to sun up. Sometimes I don’t get the best comments or attention from skating but me and these 8 wheels are inseparable. They have me reassurance and comfortability with myself again that nothing can stop me from being who I am and showing the world as well. Being a creator is not easy while most support what I am doing others give hate comments due to my size but it’s a part of my story and why I will not let others take my love away from skating and I love inspiring others to do the same with skating.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I also had an injury that set me back for a month and a half and it also phased me for a while. I was traumatized that I’d get injured again. I sprained my ankle really bad and had to wear a boot. I was laid out in the middle of cascade, crying for like 30 minutes. Was on crutches and thought I’d never skate the same again. Luckily it was broken or anything but it took a while to not be scared to skate with my left foot.
Hate comments are a part of my challenges as well sometimes I want to cry and give up but people who actually support me make me feel a lot better. I try to ignore them as much as possible.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am mostly known for middle work and splits. A lot of people like when I put moves in slow motion. I like playing with the beats in the music. I also have a move that is common where I lean back on my toes and hold on going back slow. Most people attracted to me for crazy stunts and how I am setting the tone for thicker women. I also have moments where I make skating funny by adding silly viral sounds and align it with my falls. Yea, I forgot to mention people love when I spin and fall. My falls are hilarious and the sounds in the background make it funnier.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
To Sk8luv33 aka Terry Thank you so much for always guiding me and blessing me with opportunities. Thank you so much for genuinely being you and spreading love to all.
To ham solo and Zemo Thank you for pushing me to be who I am today. Thank you for inspiring me to be a creative and use my gift.
Thank you to my mom for supporting me through the ups and downs! Thank you for supporting my dreams.
Thank you to Antonasia (aka Ant ) for even inviting me to the rink. If it wasn’t for her inviting me for like two weeks, I wouldn’t be where I am. I would’ve never went skating during Covid if it was for her I would’ve never met the people who showed me the talent I could and have with skating so thank you for respiring my interest with skating.
