Rising Stars: Meet Quality Lenz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quality Lenz.

Hi Quality, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always been in the world of Art itself. At a young age, I began drawing then painting. As I got older, I got interested in other mediums like digital art and eventually ending my journey with a camera in my hand in 2019. The camera was actually a gift from a family member. Since then, I have been privileged to create with many people and create many projects. The one I am most known for is The Photography Mixtapes. A photography project that is presented in the format of an album. I have made 2 throughout my photography journey and currently working on my last one… Many people ask, “When will you do an album?” I always say I have no idea, haha. I still have a lot to learn. Now I am almost 4 years in with the same drive and hunger to learn/create as if every day was my first time shooting. Honestly, I am just a man with a bucket and a camera on the road to become a master in the craft known as photography.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
To be honest, nothing is ever smooth. There is always obstacles, but that’s what creates masters, right? You do what you can with what you have until better comes along. For me, I’ve battled with staying outside the box and being extremely hard on myself. I am my best and worst critic. Being in Atlanta, it is easy to be grouped by others, especially when they do the same profession as you. So, it is essential to find a way to separate yourself from the box you’re placed in once you pick up a medium. This also involved me being a heavy critic on myself. Trying to figure out what pleases others for social media almost steered me away from the fact that it’s just me and my art when it’s time to shoot. Not me and Instagram or Twitter. They don’t even know what I’m doing until I allow them to see my art. So, now I shoot for me when it comes to my personal work. Since it will be I, who will be shooting to get my work into exhibitions and galleries. Not social media.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am only a man with a bucket hat and a camera. An artist whose a fisherman with the thirst for knowledge of the crafts known as photography and cinema.

I specialize in both film/digital photography and videography. However, I am more known for my photography work. I am known for creating the very first Photography Mixtape. I am very proud of this project and the recognition it has brought me. Ranging from locals in the community to known folks like Scrill Davis and Cam Kirk. This also sets me apart from others because no one else has ever heard of it until I created it. For now, I am working on my last one on film. Once completed, I plan to make an impact that will stamp me forever in the world of Art & Black Cultchah’. One of my main goals is to put “the ghetto” in museums & galleries around the world.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I can actually fish! I have been fishing since I was young.
