Community Highlights: Meet Daniel Sanchez of Night Owl Studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Sanchez.

Hi Daniel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia, South America. I got my bachelor’s degree in Marketing in 2008.

In 2010, my family blessed me with the opportunity of sending me to Canada. There, I studied French and Radio Production. In 2011, some friends and I started a Hip-Hop media platform in Montreal, Canada. We did podcasting, radio shows, blogging, events, and videos supporting local and international Hip-Hop. We made a lot of buzz back then but in 2013 I went back to Colombia. I left this platform in 2015 and unfortunately, it basically died.

In 2016, I realized I wanted to change paths and I started thinking about what I wanted to do in life. I remembered how I used to love video editing when I was younger. In the late 90s, my brother taught me how to edit video with two VHS, a Sony Handicam and a discman/walkman. We used to record ourselves doing aggressive in-line tricks with the Sony Handicam and we edited our own videos so in 2016 I decided to try a new path in Film Production. Once again, my family blessed me by sending me to Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida.

I graduated in 2018. Some months after graduating, I moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Atlanta was a great destination for me since Film is huge here. We started our company called Night Owl Studios. Four years after, I am happy to say that we have worked on feature films, documentaries, short films, corporate videos, music videos, Battle Rap events, other live events videos and BTS photography. It has been a roller coaster but after all the work and dedication the team and myself have put in, we are starting to see a brighter future for us in the industry.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a complete rollercoaster. Starting a business can create a lot of anxiety, stress, overthinking, wanting to quit, time and money investment, disappointments, but I consider it is just part of the process. It is normal for businesses to struggle in their first three to five years of existence. There have been moments where we thought we were set and all the projects that were in the works either fell down or did not happen. There have been moments where we have not been able to pay ourselves, instead, we need to take from our personal funds to put into the company to keep it alive. Even though all of this, having faith, a good team, and commitment to what you are doing can and will help you through the dark times.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Since Atlanta and Georgia have been making a lot of buzz when it comes to FiIm Production, I moved here in 2018. We started our company called Night Owl Studios. Many of the business partners have left, but we have now a solid and dedicated team.

Four years after we started the company, I am happy to say that we have worked on feature films, documentaries, short films, corporate videos, music videos, Battle Rap events, other live events videos, and BTS photography.

I consider that one of our biggest values and something that really sets us apart is our customer service. We personalize each project and make sure that our customers feel cared about. We work hard and we are passionate for what we do.

I consider that our biggest achievements so far, have been working on the feature films and a documentary I wrote, produced, directed and edited about a young Colombian rapper who comes from the slums and raps on public transportation for a living. He is very talented and this project allowed me to go to a place where usually people can’t go to and create a visual product of a great story. This documentary is called RapDelDonald: El Documental. I have also improved a lot my BTS photography which I really enjoy doing.

Our company is capable to handle the production and post-production aspects of any film/video project. Our main activity is post-production (editing, coloring, vfx, deliverables, and sound post).

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I have so many great memories of my childhood and all of them I really owe to my family. My family has always been very loving and supportive. I also enjoyed playing in my school’s basketball team when I was 10 and 11 years old.
