Life & Work with Rana Shaba

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rana Shaba.

Hi Rana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was a college dropout looking for something I was passionate about. I heard about microblading 7 years ago, searched for courses and signed up for one. I worked super hard and built my brand to where it is now. I’ve been consistent and focused even when times were rough. I continued my education and took more courses throughout the country and implemented everything I’ve learned into my courses.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Here are some of my biggest challenges:

Getting the right people on the bus. You can have a great service business, but if you don’t have the right support staff in place, you will never realize your potential.

One of the other biggest challenges entrepreneurs faces while running a business is remembering to take time to unplug and rest. Failing to do this can lead to burnout and it isn’t physically healthy for your body or mind. I find the best approach is to schedule in exercise each day, eat healthily, take your vitamins, meditate, and make it a point to unplug at least once a week so you can regroup and recharge.

Also, maintaining authenticity. In a world with countless “pmu artist” about how to do everything and anything related to small business, it’s easy to be tempted by “What’s everyone else doing that works?” But that doesn’t make me special. It just makes me like everyone else. What I’ve learned from others has helped me build a solid foundation. Yet I must not forget to include a little of my “uniqueness” in everything I do.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a 12 times certified Permanent Makeup Artist and Master Instructor. I specialize in Microblading, Ombre brows, and Lip blush tattoos and training.

There are many things that make me proud to work at my company, but some of the things that stand out most are my company values and the way I treat my employees, clients, and students.

My company values are based on respect, integrity, and accountability, and I believe in them wholeheartedly. I’m proud to run a business that puts such a strong emphasis on these values.

When I saw my students growing and becoming the leaders, I knew they could be. I’m also proud when a customer shares the exceptional experience that they had with one of me or one of my girls.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor can be an organic process, but it’s essential to be proactive and set yourself up for a successful mentorship relationship.

Learning from someone more experienced is an invaluable business opportunity, whether you’ve just started your first job or are halfway through your career. As we slip into the day-to-day routine of working life, it’s easy to get lost in the moment. A mentor can reset our perspective so we can see our careers and growth from a new vantage point.

You need a mentor to show you the ropes in your field when you have little to no experience. Beyond providing professional advice, a mentor may also help you work on your networking skills and introduce you to other experts in your field who can help you grow professionally.

Being trained by some of the top artists in the world has taught me so much. I take about 1-2 training a year to stay on top of the game!
