Today we’d like to introduce you to Vince Wiley and Mike Schaller. Mike and Vince and their team shares their story with us below:
So excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My business partner and I became great friends in 2006. We both had the entrepreneurial spirit, tried and failed many businesses for almost ten years. I always had a fascination with pedicabs and wanted to try them in Atlanta since it was an untapped market. Our first pedicab arrived in 2015, we started with small festivals in downtown Cartersville, weddings and found our first big break at Lakepoint Community Sports in Emerson in the summer of 2015. We then proceeded entering into downtown Rome in the second half of 2016 and then transitioned into the big music festivals such as Okeechobee, Bonaroo, Exit 111, Imagine, Firefly, Electric Forest, Coachella still to the present day. When the new Braves stadium was completed in 2017, we knew getting a contract with the Braves would be a huge win. Joyride Pedicabs put together a business presentation, and received a pedicab shuttle and advertising contract with the Braves in 2018 till the present. This is our proudest achievement to date, but we are always searching for new opportunities!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were definitely many challenges we had to overcome. When we started, we didn’t know one thing about working on bikes, let alone pedicabs. We started with a pipe dream, but we continued to do whatever it took to learn about the pedicab business and most importantly honed our skills with people utilizing patience and tenacity with phone calls, emails, and booking meetings to create new business. We always lived by “Go until you get a no”.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am very skilled with people. No one is a stranger. He is able to develop friendships, trust, and build rapport with people quickly. He is very skilled with networking and is most proud of finding value in every person he meets.
What were you like growing up?
I was very outgoing and relatable to people at a young age. He came from a very loving family, had one brother and two sisters which all got along very well. I got into outdoor sports such as running and hiking at an early age. To this day, he has enjoyed good overall health carrying the legacy of his parents with his active lifestyle.
