Daily Inspiration: Meet Keya Nathan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keya Nathan.

Hi Keya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My interest in photography came about in 2013 when my late mother gave me a camera before she had passed away, she told me to go out and make memories and capture the beauty of life. I started taking family photos of my children then I eventually purchase my first real camera a DSLR Nikon D7100 where I went about self-teaching myself the ropes of photography you know the ins and the outs of it. I went out and took pictures of everything mainly the city of Richmond. I didn’t expect people to ask me to take their photos or take photos of their events. As I got more familiar with photography, I wanted to do so much more with it so when tax season came around, I went and bought me a Canon and took my photography more serious. Fast Forward to 2021 and 2022 I have been a photographer for RVA Fashion Week both years also photographer for Diner En Blanc both years I have done photography for the Richmond Jazz Festival as well for 2 years, attending workshops in Atlanta to better myself each day. I’m now a Lifestyle Photographer and I also do some modeling as well on the side best of both worlds lol. I guess you can say I’m a lover of fashion, art and beauty.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road along the way, I’ve had my cameras stolen from me which took me into a slight depression state because that was my extra income so I had to stop taking bookings until I was able to get new gear. As I said before every day is a learning experience you just have to know how to handle every situation.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Lifestyle Portrait Photographer who loves to Capture The Essences and the Beauty of others. I love to tell someone’s story through my lens. I do photos of entrepreneurs who want to showcase themselves and their brand, family lifestyle portraits and couples. When people see a photo of someone that post I get I know that’s Keya Nathan Photography. I try to make my photos stand out from others which is an Airy look. I’m most proud of my growth especially for not going to college for Photography. I can look at my work from years ago to today and very impressed with myself, having well-known businesses here in Richmond, VA like Diner En Blanc, RVA Fashion Week and Richmond Jazz Festival to love my work and giving me an opportunity to work with their business that speaks volume of my creative art of photography.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Spending time with my children, going to concerts and being with my friends. All these bring me peace when I’m around them and music.
