Today we’d like to introduce you to Chardé Johnson.
Hi Chardé, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I actually started doing taxes after getting scammed out of my money by a tax preparer at a reputable tax company. Being a single mother, I depended on the tax refund money to move with my children.
After that experience, I vowed to learn about the tax industry so I could ensure that never happened again to myself, friends or family. I started off on turbo tax learning the basics of navigating through a return. A few close friends and family trusted me enough to prepare for their return and I actually did good! From there I wanted to ensure I knew the legalities of the business so I enrolled in Tax School at Jackson Hewitt. I was determined to provide a better life for me and my children. While working the third shift doing the front desk at a hotel, I would complete my tax school exams online. There were many nights I was tired and the numbers jumbled together but I pushed through and finished. After completing Tax School, I was offered a position at Jackson Hewitt. However, while working there, I didn’t agree with the expensive tax prep fees for a service that everyone needs. That inspired me to branch out and start my own business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There has been many struggles along the way this process wasn’t easy at all. While I was in tax school, my children and I lived at the hotel I worked at because I was escaping a domestic violence situation. I was determined to change the narrative for me and my children we would not be another statistic! I started off with only a few clients, then I accepted some partnership opportunities that didn’t turn out well for me. In 2020, a dear friend of mine, the late Shanod Johnson who was a well-known promoter in the Atlanta area wanted to boost my promotion. He reached out to me and offered me a slot on the radio for a quick commercial promoting Tax Time Consultants. He also referred me to a graphic designer who designed my flyers and finally I started to see an influx of clients from all over the country.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was raised by my grandmother. I was a very inquisitive child who had a passion for learning. The second oldest of six children I have always been my family’s go-to person for information. I spent time with my Aunt who was a professor in Boston and was enrolled in the Junior NSBE program at MIT in Cambridge, Mass. My love for finance developed when I visited the World Trade Center when I was in the 8th grade. We actually saw the hustle and bustle of America’s financial epicenter before the 9/11 tragedy. Not having my parents active in my life and having such a nurturing and informative grandmother, I knew at an early age I wanted to not only make money but learn how to manage that money as well.
