Today we’d like to introduce you to Derek Green.
Hi Derek, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Lawn care was originally my side hustle. I was working full-time job at publix distribution and wanted to do something to supplement my income. I have uncle Leroy warren that has a lawn care business so I decided to somewhat follow in his footsteps and learned from him, Calvin Strawdder and Duane Underwood who also had a landscaping business that I worked for in high school. They both took me under their wings to teach me the ropes. I started networking and building alongside with my partners Veron Warren and Deonta Glover by growing clients by word of mouth, networking {ig and Facebook} started cutting friends’ and family’s yards and also pressure washing their driveways. As we grew started obtaining contracts with several property management companies to be one of their primary landscaping vendors. As of today, we service over 100 properties including residential and commercial covering from the south side of Atlanta to Cartersville, GA.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been smooth to get where am today with D.G. property management. I tried working a full-time job that required overtime while trying to build my lawn care business on my off days. And complete yards when I got off from publix I was juggling too much at one time, falling behind on work, losing clients and wearing myself out was pretty much working 16-18 hour days. I learned that I needed to focus on our lawn care business n order to see it grow further and perfect our quality of work.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
D.G. property management specializes in lawn care, pressure washing, and junk removal. We focus on the maintenance of the exterior of properties. We are known for cleaning g up the exterior of properties by turning unmaintained yards into the best-looking yard of the street. Also along with truing the direst driveways and houses and making them look brand new with pressure washing and removing any unwanted debris. We are most proud of when we get that wow from neighbors as they pass by for them to ask us for our card because they need work done at their houses also the wow from the owners of the houses as we exceeded their exceptions. What sets us apart from other is the team of people we have that we take our time doing the job right instead of rushing to get it done but actually treating the property like it’s our own.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is knowing that we leave our clients satisfied and always exceed their exceptions. That when I get a call/text that a past customer has a friend or family member that needs our services as well and they passed our number along. So as we grow, it makes me happy that I made the right decision by leaving my full-time job to pursue the business full-time.
