Yimbo, thank you so much for joining us today. We’d love for you to bring our readers up to speed – can you introduce yourself and share your story?
Hello, my name is Yimbo and I’m a Hip-Hop/R&B Artist from Columbus, OH. My passion for music started at a young age, but I didn’t start to produce and write music until the age of 15. I started off jotting down rhymes from time to time in my notebook in school, then I found a dilemma of having no beats or equipment to record with. That’s when I was introduced to my A/V class in my sophomore year of High School. It was there I was introduced to a beat program called “Fruity Loops”. This is where I began to develop my skills as a producer so I would be able to write full songs to my own beats. Once I started getting full songs recorded I released my first Mixtape “The Hustle” in 2012. Since then I have been producing and writing music for myself and others for over 10+ years. I’ve done shows with celebrities, colleges, and local events in my community and worked with some incredible people along the way
Please talk to us about your music.
My music career has allowed me some great experiences and to meet some amazing creatives. My music can be described simply as “just a vibe”. It’s made for late-night cruises or the summer days we dream about all year. I want to give listeners a journey through the music and set the right mood in every record. My most recent EP “VybeLand” and the rest of my music can be found on all Digital Streaming Platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, and Youtube.
So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Kinnawa Kaitibi and AfricanThunder Inc. and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with AfricanThunder Inc..
I’ve known Kinnawa for a long time, but as my career as a music artist began to grow I was desperate for some advice on marketing and presenting myself as a brand, rather than just another musician. With the help of Kinnawa and his business, AfricanThunder Inc, I was able to share high-quality photos and content that helped dramatically increase my social media following and presence. AfricanThunder Inc. has also provided quality marketing strategies that have helped to build the reach and exposure of my music and brand.
I was skeptical at first to do business with someone I was so personally close with, but the rewards that I’ve seen have been well worth the risk. I enjoy working with AfricanThunder Inc. because Kinnawa is able to listen to the ideas and concepts I give him and shape my vision in real life. He accurately pinpoints the areas of focus that we need to work on and develops a detailed plan to conquer these goals in a timely manner. His strategies allowed me to set up a system and schedule for myself to post content more consistently and engage with my following in the best way.
His experience with photography and videography has also had a huge impact on my brand. We’ve shot several music videos in various locations, such as Atlanta and Memphis. Each video shoot provided a new experience that helped me grow and network with other talented creatives. Traveling and doing work with him has helped me hone my skills as a songwriter and inspired me to create better visual content for my fans, old and new alike.
