Conversations with Tameka Bryan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tameka Bryan.

Tameka, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am born & raised in New Orleans, La. I have three siblings; I am the oldest. We lived in the projects growing up. As a small child When living in the projects or any atmosphere, you think this is how living is supposed to be but as I grew older I believe it was around eight years old I began to realize there is better there is more. Because although we lived in the projects we went to private school. St. Louis cathedral that’s located in the French quarters and my mom and dad sacrificed for my sister and I to attend the best school until they were no longer able to afford the school. But being surrounded by others who lived differently made me aware of there is more and much much better. I always read books and magazines and would say I will be a millionaire one day with a big house based on what I saw in the magazines. I purchased my first home as a single parent at 24 years old and made a promise to myself that I will never live in the projects again although it’s where I come from it’s not where I have to finish at.

I have always been an entrepreneur since the age of 12 years when I was in Junior high school. I would sell personalized hair bows with names and fun designs. My upbringing made me humble but motivated me to strive for better so I can do better for myself and family. But the road to financial freedom & success never comes easy. Because there is always a trial in error when finding what’s your calling what’s your purpose that God has placed you on this earth for and when are an entrepreneur at heart you continue to try different things until you get that one business that you know is for you. With business, it’s trial and error keep trying until you get it right. Being an entrepreneur is not for the weak I had a vending machine business, I owned a barber & beauty salon, But I have always had a gift to help others discover what’s their purpose and how to get to your goal. I have always been the spokesperson at all my family events and now Today I am able to do public speaking all over the world. I love to teach and I know I didn’t want to work for anyone that’s when I decided if I own a childcare center I can be my own boss and teach children at a young age this fulfilled my purpose, passion, and goal to always be in control of my own finances by being my own boss.

In 2015, my husband and I opened Crescent City Academy out of our home and Oh boy that’s when I realized this is exactly what God place me on this earth to do. I grew out of my home within 1 year and needed a larger space. I grew at that space within 6 months and the landlord wouldn’t let me add on to the building and that’s when I made a decision that I will no longer be a tenant I will be the owner. Six months later I purchased my own building to run Crescent City Academy and blessed another aspiring business owner with the location I had and coached and developed her for 24 months in how to effectively run a quality childcare center. My in-home childcare center was on such high standards Crescent City Academy in-home setup and playground setup was used in training to showcase a quality family childcare in-home setup and this what lead me to setting up childcare center classrooms all over the world. I began to see that my staff was unable to produce lesson plans and really just didn’t have the education or skill to complete lesson plans and this prompted me to create and publish Crescent City Learning Material Curriculum a childcare curriculum that serves ages 18 months to five years of age Crescent City Learning material provides a step by step lesson plan easy for teachers to read and teach all while preparing each child for there next level.

I have begun traveling to different cities training childcare teachers on how to bring lesson plans to life and how to make teaching young children exciting educational and fun. It’s one thing to get a box and books to teach but the question is can you actually teach or execute what’s inside the lesson plan or box of teaching tools. Often times the answer is no and that’s what I travel to different states to do. People also ask me how did I get where I am financial wise and I am always honest hard working and saving my money and not being afraid to invest within myself and that’s how I create Crescent City Monthly Expense Tracker to show others how tracking your money can help you get to your goals I also coach others on how to save and track their expenses and incoming money because remember I do not come from money my family lives from paycheck to paycheck. Tracking my money has allowed my husband and I to own Crescent City Properties which consist of rental properties and Land in Texas and New Orleans along with 3 commercial buildings. The epitome of a businesswoman, Tameka Bryan, has a proven track record of success. This serial entrepreneur started her first business as an in-home childcare provider and after only one year, she moved into her first childcare facility, Crescent City Academy.

As a New Orleans native, Tameka knew as a child that she was going to be successful. “As early as the age of five, I was always ambitious and a big dreamer”, Tameka recalled while reminiscing about her humble beginnings. “My family must have thought I was crazy when I would tell them that I was going to be a millionaire.”

Early on, Tameka Bryan decided that she wanted to have a positive impact on children and decided to go to college earning her Associate of Arts Degree as well as her Child Development Associate. Tameka Bryan resides in Texas with her husband and two sons.

My entire goal is to educate motivate and inspire everyone I come in contact with.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road is never smooth with life comes challenges. The closer you get to your goals there is always an obstacle but you must be able to overcome those obstacles. Lost of my brother to the streets of New Orleans. Lost of my son’s father 1 month before my son turned one year old to the streets of New Orleans. Left me being a single mom at 20 years old and my son being fatherless. Which never stopped me from being an entrepreneur it motivated me to go harder, I worked a full-time job and ran a business all the time. Life got easier in 2009 when I married my Husband Ralph Bryan. I was so used of working my full-time job and janitorial business at the time I didn’t know how to work less or delegate it to him. But eventually, I learned. My husband made it ok for me to blossom and fully dive into entrepreneurship full time and omg I still keep blanking my eyes trying to see if this is real. The little girl out the St. Bernard project.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

In childcare I help people open up a childcare center, I help locate childcare facilities, I lease turnkey childcare centers to people, I help people take their business to the next level by building quality classrooms, setting up (SOP) standard operational procedures. I am a public speaker in the childcare industry.

I am most proud of helping others identify their purpose, obtain their goals, and being able to educate motivate and inspire each child-parent & teacher at all my childcare centers.

What sets me apart is I am humble, I am authentic and I am not afraid to share where I started from and I am very honest with people about the entrepreneur journey. It’s not always pretty.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was always smart, sassy by the mouth, confident and bossy. I was always the leader. Always on the honor roll as a student and was upset if I got a bad grade. In High School I was Ms. Sopohomore, Ms. Junior, & Ms. Senior, I was also the Vice President of my class. I was a majorette and marched in the parades every year from the age of 12 years old. I took the big sister roll seriously. I was the protector of my sister and brother and it still hurts my soul that I wasn’t there to protect my baby brother from the person who shot him at the tender age of 19 years old.
