Mia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Back in May of 2020, I didn’t get a bonus after selling $53,000 of inventory in one month.
My regular salary was $34,600 without bonus/commission.
I knew then it was time to let go of corporations and work the work for Mjay’s!
I had already launched a year prior and been selling online, but I did not have the time to fully commit.
Since leaving corporate America, I have:
*Opened my own salon suite.
* Hit my service first goal.
* Added 5 services to my list since I resigned.
*Purchased my first car off of my business income.
No, it’s not peaches and cream every day. But every day I wake up grateful to be this business’s owner.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not. Being a business owner has a lot of benefits. But it truly costs to be the boss. This year alone, I was set back six months due to an injury and I’m still not back on track. I lost all my clientele in those 6 months off and had to start back over.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a makeup artist by trade and I own an organic skincare company.
I would say that I specialize in brows and skincare.
I am most proud of my skincare company still standing. I started from one product for my own skin issues due to PCOS and ended up developing an entire line. I believe that this sets me apart because I started this to help myself from using toxic chemicals on my skin. It turned into an entire movement.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people do not know that when I started my company, I was putting my turmeric mask in Tupperware containers because I did not know what to use when people wanted to purchase. I would actually buy the Tupperware from dollar tree.
