Today we’d like to introduce you to Brent Reno.
Hi Brent, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My first camera was a little Kodak Point and Shoot that was 101 Dalmatians. It was gifted to me by my mom after my Kindergarten Graduation to remember my first summer vacation by. I definitely didn’t know what a good photo was, I just took photos of what I liked. Eventually, being a kid, I broke that camera. After that, I started buying disposable cameras from the drug store or Walmart. Into my teenage years, photography took a backseat to video games, girls, and school. It wasn’t until 2017 that I picked up my first DSLR after getting inspired on YouTube. With my knowledge of the Adobe Suite I learned in College studying Graphic Design I already had a leg up on editing. I started just shooting for friends and family until I met The Atlanta Creative’s Instagram. From there I was able to link up with models all over Metro Atlanta and I’ve worked with countless wonderful models, a few small local brands, and I’ve partnered with a few local Photographers. That’s where we are today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. Imposter syndrome is real. Some days I wonder why anyone would ever pay me to take a photograph. Am I ripping people off? I’ve “quit”2-3 times. I’m talking full-on sold off my kit and tried to move on. Every time I do though my love for it pulls me right back in.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I primarily shoot Portraiture and Boudoir Photography. Early on I got a lot of attention from clients for my single light boudoir setups to create this look of my subject in a void. I think I’m really proud of the level of trust I’ve earned. There are a lot of “guys with cameras” trying to shoot what I shoot for the wrong reasons. I want to always make sure my clients are comfortable, safe and know they can trust me. I encourage all clients and models to bring someone with them to shoots. I’ve even been the someone for some of them with other photographers before. We as a community have to look out for each other.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t really believe in luck. Life is what you make of it. Good or bad, eventually I’m going to get up again and get back to doing what needs to be done.
