Inspiring Conversations with Beverly Carthern of Bev’s Tipsy Treats

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beverly Carthern.

I’m Louisiana born, Texas raised, and transplanted in Georgia. I am a southern girl to heart.  I’ve been in the kitchen ever since I can remember. It all started with me standing in a chair next to my dad as he whipped up his delicious sweet potato pie.  My job was always to crack the eggs and mix the contents. I still remember the delicious smell of his sweet potato pies. My favorite part was watching my family enjoy the pies once they were done. When I was fifteen, I decided that I would someday, someway, somehow bring that satisfaction to the entire world. At twenty-six years old, I decided to merge my love for alcohol and desserts, and my company Bev’s Tipsy Treats was born. My very first tipsy creation was chocolate chip cookies infused with Hennessey, and the company’s options expanded from there. I also offer B.Y.O.D.: Build Your Own Dessert where I infuse any dessert with any alcohol at the customer’s request. In addition to infused desserts, I offer sinless desserts—desserts without alcohol. If you want it, just ask, and I will make it happen! My most popular desserts are: sinless banana pudding, banana pudding infused with Rum Chata, sinless strawberry brownies, and red velvet chocolate cookies infused with Crown Royal vanilla. Everything is available for shipping. I also deliver to the metro Atlanta and surrounding areas.

Hi Beverly, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My love for baking all started with me being four years old standing in a chair next to my dad as he whipped up his delicious sweet potato pie.  My job was always to crack the eggs and mix the contents. I still remember the delicious smell of his sweet potato pies. My favorite part was watching my family enjoy the pies once they were done. I started Bev’s Tipsy Treats to incorporate and share my love for both sweets and alcohol. I’ve always loved sweets and alcohol separately, but bringing them together was a game changer. As a result, Bev’s Tipsy Treats was created. I started with cookies then expanded to all treats. Today, I offer, banana pudding, cobblers, cupcakes, cookies, and brownies, which are all available for shipping.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My biggest challenge was getting the exposure in a new city. Two years ago, I relocated to Atlanta, GA from Houston, TX. I knew no one, I didn’t know my way around town, I didn’t know where a good place was to set up, there was no one to spread word of mouth about me, etcetera. I had to start from scratch. I had to learn people, places, mindsets, everything. It was not easy or smooth at all, but I appreciate the experience because knowing nothing made me get out of my comfort zone and go harder. I made connections with people I would have never met, and I networked with businesses I had never heard of.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Bev’s Tipsy Treats specializes in both tipsy and non-tipsy desserts (with and without alcohol). I am mostly known for Not Your Grandma’s Banana Pudding, which is infused with Rum Chata. It comes individually in mason jars or in a family sized pan. It is also available without alcohol or infused with an alcohol of your choice. I am most proud of my success in both Houston and Atlanta. What sets me apart is the fact that I can turn your favorite cookie into a brownie. Orders can be made online at  bevstipsytreats.com ,and there is a 24-hour turnaround time on all delivered orders that are in my area. I mail off all shipping orders within 24 hours of my receiving the order.
