Hidden Gems: Meet Mercy Aremu of YourFide Dietitian and Healing Favor Nutrition

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mercy Aremu.

Mercy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I worked as a dialysis renal dietitian for years and realized majority of patients were not provided preventative nutrition services prior to being diagnosed with kidney disease and kidney failure. Diabetes and high blood pressure are the two leading causes of chronic kidney disease (CKD). In fact, a person with diabetes and high blood pressure is four times as likely to develop heart disease than someone who does not have either of the conditions.

This year l, I took a leap of faith and made the radical decision to start my own non-profit organization, call Healing Favor Nutrition Inc, 501(c)(3) approved and my private practice YourFide Dietitian offering virtual Telenutrition services. Starting a charitable organization takes compassion. When you have compassion, you’re putting yourself in someone else’s shoes. Healing Favor Nutrition is a non-profit organization with a goal to provide accessible nutrition therapy services to underserved and underrepresented populations.

Yes, I am a licensed and registered clinical dietitian and nutritionist who is passionate about disease prevention and saving people’s lives. I’ve served diverse communities and cultures with the highest level of care as a clinical dietitian in a dialysis clinics, hospitals, and private practice outpatient clinics. I have in-depth experience in providing individualized medical nutrition therapy across a variety of conditions, including Heart disease, Kidney Disease, ESRD on dialysis, Diabetes, Crohn, PCOS, Gout, Autoimmune diseases, Cancers, High Blood Pressure, children’s pediatric nutrition services -Autism, ADHD, Eating Disorder (Anorexia/Bulimia), Gastrointestinal diseases, Yeast infections, Lupus, COVID…etc. I take great pride in incorporating an understanding of my patient’s culture in order to provide recommendations that are relevant and sustainable. In the field of dietetics, culturally appropriate nutrition therapy competence are essential. The absence of cultural competence among dietitians may increase health inequities among diverse communities. Personally, I love spending time with my clients, learning about their health journey, and completing a comprehensive process to tailor treatment directly to each individual’s needs.

Partner with us. Together, we can focus on ensuring children get a strong healthy start, youth are equipped to thrive physically, and people of all ages have an opportunity to live a healthier life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When it comes to helping people, it is important that I know my limits. And knowing when to put boundaries in place. I have the gift of compassion and empathy and have always had the desire to help others and to make a positive difference in other people’s lives.

Any big plans?
Providing And expanding virtual Telenutrition services.
