Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Burgett.
Hi Chris, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
“Being involved in competitive sports and games is something I’ve done ever since I can formulate a real memory I feel like. I grew up with two older brothers and a sister who happened to be the oldest. So, being the only girl, she had to be tough and was just as competitive as the Burgett boys were.
Athletics and art have ran through our blood on both sides of our family tree. My father was a state champion in wrestling and just as good on the football field and as a boxer. My grandfather on my mom’s side was a skilled architecture and wood craftsmen. So, art and sports runs through my family’s DNA. But unless you are fortunate enough to go professional in your field of choice, the lessons, the drive, the motivation, the energy, the dedication you’ve put into it all has to be transferred into a new useful positive outlet. You have to take those countless hours of working out, practicing, preparing, studying, and that competitive edge and learn how to function in the less physical, but just as menacing, business world where high levels of competition still exists.”
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
“Life is never going to be smooth. I don’t care if you were born into royalty and you are the prince or princess of Persia, you’ve inherited wealth, or you come from real poverty, the battle of finding out who you truly are and how you really want to live your life for the betterment of society or selfishly for yourself will come to a head, the journey isn’t going to be easy, and trials and tribulations will never disappear in this lifetime. No one escapes unscathed.
Personally, I’ve struggled in many different ways and it’s forced me to mature. I’ve struggled with every emotion working to get to where I am now. And I still feel like I’m just getting started. I’ve dealt with heart-brake, death of four of my closest friends recently, poverty, solitude, loneliness, racism, depression, stereotypes, and classism -growing up in one of the wealthiest cities in the south in Alpharetta, Georgia, where wealth ran abundant. I believe these struggles have made me who I am and has set my personal compass straight when it comes to morals, ethics, and truly fighting for what I believe in. Your struggles and story should be a guide to progressive thinking and molding you into who you want to become.”
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Dawgs on Demand?
Who we are?
Dawgs on Demand is a Georgia-based start-up company that was created by my partner, Champ Bailey, the greatest defensive cornerback to ever play the game, in my humble opinion. Which gives us an edge in the advertising and branding industry. Chris and Matthew Hall, two down south father and son sports fanatics, which adds an organic element from a traditional fan perspective, and myself, a passionate creative production and digital marketing enthusiast.
What we do?
This company embraces all my creative and athletic passions as we move to cover all 21 University of Georgia sports programs. It involves photography, videography, written editorials, producing creative content, social media and brand amplification, and raising exposure and measuring the impact through data analytics. Then we rinse and repeat to create more accurate results. It also encompasses geo, social, and psychoanalytics, finally and thankfully bridging me back to my economics major and my $100,000 + college education. I find a little peace in this.
How we set ourselves apart?
I believe the biggest factor that sets us apart from our competition is that you are getting an inside perspective to the University of Georgia’s athletic program with Champ and I. Both being former major high school and collegiate student-athletes, a NFL Hall of Famer, and with two south Georgia born and raised fans running our podcast arm, the dichotomy of perspectives run congruent and opposite in all the same breath. It all somehow works out and leads to an interesting company chemistry that self-corrects.
Our Dawgs on Demand business is moving in many unique and fun directions. We are really just learning to go with the flow. Being former University of Georgia athletes, we are working hard to continue to build a strong rapport with our former, the current, and hopefully the future student-athletes to come through the university.
How we are staying connected to the University of Georgia?
We are also embracing our Georgia Football Lettermen’s Club (GFLC) to tie-in new business endeavors. Chuck Kinnebrews has been a strong supporter of this process. He is one of the original five African Americans to play for the University of Georgia football program, my friend and mentor, and he sits on the GFLC committee.
What is our mission?
Our overall mission is to help strengthen and improve the student-athletic association, as I am getting directly involved with the school’s alumni committee, provide a niche relationship-building opportunity with the student-athletes and brands circulating the Georgia football program with NIL deals and guidance, and brand asset exposure.
How we are giving back to the UGA program?
We are also continuing to give back by being eyes and ears and a vessel for the student-athletes we get involved with in partnerships by being active mentors and advocates for their business relationships, entrepreneurial ambitions, and helping them mold professionally on and off the field or courts to build their networks and value through self-awareness. This is something Champ and I are excited and extremely passionate about doing.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Being directly involved with NIL arena, a new-aged way of compensation for current student-athletes using their name image and likeness in college sports, it’s an exciting space for us to be in. By utilizing the power of our social media presence, our network, and University of Georgia alumni focused business owners, we are anticipating a continuous incline in our industry on all levels of business.
As we work to expand our footprint with a few new exciting announcements soon to come, we will increase our current average daily, weekly and monthly impressions by the millions giving more exposure to our clients.
Dawgs on Demand is currently working to solidify a few major business partnerships to bring our company services directly into a “farm to table” media ecosystem in the state of Georgia and for our partners. We are confident that we are just getting started and our value will begin to showcase itself as we continue to layout our business assets and media products in the Spring of 2023.
