Today we’d like to introduce you to Alix Oliver.
Hi Alix, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am Alix Oliver. I am a movie producer, avid editor, and owner of Midnight Coffee Productions. Growing up, I didn’t know my career path and goals would be in television and filmmaking. I originally wanted to be a veterinarian, because of my love for animals. But, one day in high school changed the course of my life.
January 20th, 2012, it was the second semester of freshman year of high school, I got off the bus to go home. I walked ahead of my friends, because I was excited to get home for sushi night. A SUV hit their accelerator and backed up into me. The bones in my body felt like they were twisting and turning. The man didn’t know that he hit me and was slowly backing up. I was still conscious and crawling with my hands out of the way so he wouldn’t run over me. My friends, and everyone that saw me get hit, were yelling. They stopped the vehicle and a man got out of the driver’s seat and a woman was in the passenger’s seat. The woman asked, “Are you okay?!” The man just looked at the giant dent in his car. When everyone came up to to check on me, the couple acted like they couldn’t understand English. The guy told his wife to immediately get into the car beside their suv. They drove off in separate cars and left me on the ground.
After that day, my life changed and I now have a disability that I am working on a daily basis. I will acquire my goals of walking again. There’s a lot more to my story, but it would be an essay if I broke it all down. Who knows? Maybe a book!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth or normal road for me to get where I am today. After the accident, I was basically a test subject for the doctors to try to figure out what was wrong with me. I wouldn’t grow or gain weight. I was very thin and tiny. I have been bullied both verbally and physically. I went through chronic depression and I tried to commit suicide 5 times in high school. High school was some of the worse years of my life.
College years were better, but there were good and bad days. I would say where I am now is great, but I know my life only gets better from here.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Well, you should know that we specialize in television productions and filmmaking. I founded the company in 2019 and brought a lot of people that I met during my time in the Georgia Film Academy. We evolved and grew over time, including working to expand new divisions like Midnight Coffee Records and Midnight Coffee Productions: West Coast. My company and I have more ideas, but I cannot spill them all right now. You’ll just have to wait and witness history!
The thing that sets us apart is that we make our crew a priority along with our cast.
I can say that I’m most proud of “Dead Serious”. It is a show that my company put together. It’s a concept from my mind! I started it as a 10-page short film script and changed it to a 35-page pilot. We shot episode 1 as a proof of concept and expanded it into a full fledge television show. I even started my own writer’s room with 4 other gifted and talented individuals. The entire first season scripts are completed with it being 10 episodes. We’re working daily to get it seen and picked up to go into production.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5 to 10 years, I see the industry of television and film industry moving more to Georgia from California. I do see my company blossoming with me becoming a bigger stable in the industry. I also see “Dead Serious“ becoming a force that no one saw coming and branching into other forms.
