Today we’d like to introduce you to Tia Williams.
Hi Tia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Tia Nicole and I’m a Photographer in Detroit. I love to travel and visit new places. I’m very adventurous and love to explore new things. What got me to where I am today is my faith in God and my faith within myself. I followed my intuition and quit my career as a Paralegal. I wasn’t fulfilled within the legal industry so I made a change. In 2018 I went back to school at Specs Howard School of Media Arts in the Broadcast Media Arts program. I graduated at the end of 2019. As I was gaining experience in the industry, I got hired at iHeart Radio on the promotions team until COVID-19 took over. I was laid off from work and was back to square one. That’s when I started my media production company. I believe everything happens for a reason. God had bigger plans for me.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Starting and running a business is not easy. It’s an ongoing journey that you constantly have to put in effort towards. It requires discipline, patience, consistency, knowledge and mentorship from those who have already succeeded as a business owners. Some of the struggles along the way is not having support, no financial literacy for business, no money for start-up cost, and receiving the proper exposure.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a photographer who specializes in photography for small businesses. I do headshots, product photography for food, beverage and e-commerce. What I am most proud of is the accomplishments I obtained last year in 2022. I am a Comcast Rise Recipient and was able to use the grant money to produce a promotional video for my business that aired on their network for three months. I was featured on Build Institute Small Business Summit where they conducted an interview that was live-streamed on Facebook. I was also featured in two magazines. I ended the year being a vendor for the first time at an event to network and bring more exposure to my company. I definitely accomplished a lot from my vision board. What sets me apart from others is that I am multitalented behind the camera as well as in front of the camera. Not only am I a photographer, I’m also a talent in front of the camera. If clients need someone to be the voice for their promotional video, I provide that service. Aside from that, Instead of my clients having to come to me for a photo session, I bring the studio to them using environmental backgrounds instead of the standard white backdrop for their photo session. I have not seen another media production company offer all of the services that I offer. That’s what sets me apart from my competition.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is patience and having faith in God. I think patience is very important because good things take time. A lot of people give up when things are not working in their favor. As long as you’re putting in the necessary work to obtain what you want, God will make a way for it to happen. God can’t give you everything you want all at once because most of us wouldn’t know how to handle it. So I believe he works miracles in small doses in order to not overwhelm us.
