Today we’d like to introduce you to Saundrea Sampson.
Hi Saundrea, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My passion for social advocacy sparked in college after being involved with my alma mater’s Black Student Association. Being able to have open discussions about race, discrimination, and injustices that Black people face allowed me see there’s so much to do with seemingly not enough resources.
Jump forward to 2020, I knew I wanted to create an entity that was purposeful, touch many Black communities, and become a vessel of change. After months of brainstorming, I was set on being able to support and donate back to civically engaged organizations because they have the strategic plans but usually lack funding.
By donating to like-minded grassroots organizations, it helps to keep the mission and movement going.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has certainly not been a smooth road. It took a full year to balance entrepreneurship, work life, social life, and more. Being able to know when to say I will not work on my business right at this moment took a lot of work. I’m still working on it, but balancing life and entrepreneurship is truly the biggest struggle. Another struggle is having the energy and TIME to create everything on your wishlist. I have a book filled with ideas for my business, however, I’ve come to terms that it will all fall in place when it should.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My background is in Marketing as well as project management — which makes running a business more manageable. (Note: I didn’t say easier)
I’m most proud of my creativity and ability to conceptualize an idea and bring it into life whether that is through projects, business, etc. I’m very driven to follow through. Currently, I am focused on my new team members as we build engaging content, increase online presense, and add new products!
How do you think about luck?
My “luck” has been blessings from God. Embodied Apparel’s success dervies from God’s grace and love. During the branding and idea phase, confirmations of whether or not I should donate to particular organizations or whether I’m on the right track usually came in numbers (7’s to be exact). Every major decision I make is prayed over – I am grateful for Embodied Apparel’s success, and grateful to see where the brand is going.
