Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamelia Hubert.
Hi Jamelia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As far as skating goes, I was invited by a friend from an old Bible study group on campus. We went skating at Skate Zone in Morrow, GA as an outing, but I kept going back at least once a week. Eventually, I bought my first boot and began to network and learn from so many people. Eventually, I took my friends’ advice and started using TikTok and Instagram and became a content creator. The rest is still unfolding.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part no. As of late, I’ve gotten a lot of backlash and trolls for being who I am. I’m being roasted and dragged for being myself and having fun. The thing is, you have to not care what everyone else thinks or says and continue to do you. If you just keep being yourself, your unique self, opportunities will come. I’m proud of the many things I’ve done, and I’m just getting started.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m known mostly on social media for being a rhythm roller skater. With that comes is being a plus-size woman with a unique sense of fashion and living out loud. I can do more than go around in circles in the rink but my most viral content has been me doing acrobatic tricks on skates, especially splits. My most viral content is me doing splits. My highest view count is at 7.4 Million views on TikTok.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
For one, don’t live your life in fear. People will lie and discourage you but you have to keep going. Do the things that make you smile so hard your face hurts and your heart feels light. You are so unique from everyone else and your story matters. Don’t be afraid to spread love.
