Today we’d like to introduce you to Latrice James.
Hi Latrice, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Latrice as Pieces of Posh (the business) started in 2017. I had significant weight loss and had been a work-from-home professional for at least 5 years. My company decided to bring everyone back into the office but I was stuck with my old business professional wardrobe. My clothes were extremely too big and outdated. At the time, I could not financially afford to do a mass wardrobe makeover or spend the money for tailoring. I decided to start thrifting work clothes. I started sharing my thrifted outfits and style on social media and received a lot of feedback from friends and followers. I was encouraged to begin reselling and start a personal thrift shopping service. I had a range of clients that even included preteens, men, expectant mothers, etc. The business was going well. However, it was also competing with my full-time job as an HR professional in the financial services industry. I had taken on a new management role and life got pretty hectic. I also had a horrible ankle injury which took me off of my feet and out of shopping for quite some time. I was ready to call Pieces of Posh quits. I was ready to dissolve my business. I started experiencing severe anxiety and mild depression. During this dark period, my aunt encouraged me to keep Pieces of Posh active and to think about which aspects of the business I truly loved. I had already worked so hard to get it started.
That’s when Latrice as Pieces of Posh (the digital creator) started in 2019. I realized that my joy wasn’t necessarily in providing the service to clients but in sharing how amazing thrifting was – the finds, the savings, the sustainability.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I struggled with anxiety and depression. I wanted to quit and let my business go. However, family encouraged me to find the nuggets of the business that I loved and use that to re-brand my business.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
Lifestyle content creator and influencer – specializing in sharing thrift & bargain finds, personal & home style and travel host.
I’m most proud of the amazing personal and professional relationships that I’ve gained on this journey. For example, it has been amazing to partner with organizations like Goodwill. (I’m one of the newest faces in their international stock photo collection, featured on the cover of one of their annual reviews and have appeared on a few news segments.)
My personality sets me apart from others. I’m super friendly and approachable which is not always the case when meeting someone in person vs social media.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My family has been super supportive of everything I do. I also have close local friends who have become family. They pray for me, provide encouragement and lend support in whatever capacity they can. I also have professional HR mentors who understand the creative side of me beyond the office. They encourage me to shine my light everywhere. They advocate for me and speak my name in rooms I’m not in. I’m forever grateful.
