Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Pukish-Ringenberg.
Hi Lisa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
This journey began for me almost 20 years ago with the birth of my medically fragile daughter. After western medicine had surgically saved her life, I was left with a sick child who needed not only to recover from surgery but the medicine and toxins she received over the several years she was hospitalized. I sought help through Eastern/functional medicine and was able to reduce her prescription drugs, from 22 to just 2, over a course of 18 months simply using food and homeopathic techniques to reduce stress. When she was diagnosed as Celiac, I realized that food can be your poison as well as your medicine. My journey with her health was intense and lead me to become a certified practitioner of Integrative Nutrition through The Institute of Integrative Nutrition, NYC, the world’s largest nutrition school. There are thousands of years of Eastern medicine to catch up on and I never put my Eastern medicine and wellness books down. My education will continue for my lifetime.
Previously, I was a dancer and a competitive runner. I’ve worked with children and adults teaching both dance and Pilates. Integrative Nutrition isn’t something I do, it’s a lifestyle, and it’s something I want to teach everyone I meet so that they can have optimal health, happiness and longevity. I believe that given the right opportunities, your body WILL heal itself!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The hardest struggle I faced was my husband passing away suddenly just as my business was starting to take off. I wasn’t sure I would have the mental bandwidth to help others while trying to cope with my own personal loss. What surprised me most was that my experience made me more approachable, more in touch and more genuine with my clients. I was no longer talking to them about stress and negative behaviors from information I learned in a book, I was teaching them from a boots on the ground/been there done that approach. It made me more relatable as a role model for handling life’s struggles using self-love and compassion instead of self-sabotage.
As you know, we’re big fans of Kitchen Counter Intelligence. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The goal of Kitchen Counter Intelligence is to educate you on how to improve every single aspect of your health. I want to share information in an easy to understand, simple to follow manner so that you feel empowered to make positive lifestyle changes. My most popular service is my 6-month program. In each session, we will discuss whole health wellness to maximize your nutritional, spiritual, career and physical fitness and relationship goals. What sets me apart is that I am available to you 24/7/365 for questions, accountability and help in between sessions. Although I am the go-to for people transitioning to a plant-based (WFPBNO) diet, my programs are based on bio-individuality, which means that each program is designed specifically for the person I am are treating. No two programs are the same because no two clients are the same. This program has no shakes, no pills, no products, nothing but education, encouragement, accountability and inspiration. Our focus is proper nutrition and personal growth. The KCI program teaches you how to manage a healthy lifestyle eating what you like, in the culture you are living in, and with the people you love. There will be zero deprivation and you will develop a new loving, compassionate, healthy relationship with your body that will last a lifetime.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I first give credit to my friend and mentor Carol. She believed that I was destined to be a practitioner of integrative nutrition and supported me the entire way through school. I owe everything to her helping me start this journey! My son Benjamin is the backbone of this company. He assists me in making business decisions to help the company grow and is my voice of reason when I have new ideas I want to implement.
I also have to thank all of my hard-working past and present clients. They are walking proof of the success KCI offers. Sometimes unrecognizable from their former selves, they now radiate health and happiness which encourages their family and friends to seek out the same lifestyle change.
