Today, we’d like to introduce you to Chauncey Pelzer. Chauncey was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Jonatta Harmon.
Hi Chauncey, we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
Sure, I’m a native of Kinston, North Carolina and I graduated from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, with a degree in Business Management. I’ve done sales and Human Resources for the past 18 years. I started out as an Account Manager at Cisco Systems in Research Triangle Park in North Carolina. From there I was promoted to working a territory in Fairfield County, Connecticut.
That was a dramatic difference from North Carolina – in temperature yes but definitely in culture as well. My first snowstorm was 26 inches and I had nothing but an ice scraper! I knew nothing about digging out cars with shovels but I quickly found out! Living and working in the northeast was such an enriching experience for 10 years. I was exposed to so many different cultures, and really some of the best times in my life thus far. I lived in Stamford, CT about 45 minutes from New York City and actually met my husband in a Manhattan night club of all places haha!
Developing there personally and professionally in my 20s and 30s was life changing for me. The way I think and the level of leadership I was exposed to really transformed my life. I worked for a search firm right after Cisco in recruiting and got the opportunity to work in house for UBS Investment Bank in Stamford and then American Express at the World Trade Center in NYC.
I actually saw the Freedom Tower being built, kind of surreal and I could look right into the 9/11 Memorial from my office window. It really made me think about what was important in life during that time.
From there I worked for Gartner, an IT research firm in Human Resources and really got exposed to a global perspective working regularly with offices in London, Singapore, Germany, Brazil and more.
My husband and I decided to get married in North Carolina and raise our family. I always knew I would come back home, and did a stint in local government in HR – very different from corporate but still super interesting.
My now 3 year old daughter was born right before the pandemic in January 2020 and things definitely changed. I wanted more of a work life balance and with God’s help decided to start my own business Defining Destiny Coaching & Consulting LLC.
Working in Human Resources I have always had the interesting role of both working directly with Managing Directors and CEOs but also with all of the employees. I always wanted to be able to share more with each person in even more detail to discover their “light” and how that could help take them to the next level, and I can do that more now in my business.
Let’s talk about your work and career – what else should we know?
I have the best job in the world! I work with women who want to create freedom for themselves – both a career they love and a beautiful lifestyle. I’m called to walk alongside those (especially minorities and women of color) who basically need a professional break to reset and recharge themselves to go in the direction of their dreams. Women who are tired of being ridiculously busy and frustrated because they don’t have the results they know they could achieve if they got clarity on their direction during their transition. My program also offers ways to thrive mentally and spiritually through that transition. The women in my program are saying yes to themselves – by defining their unique abilities, never doubting their self worth, and dialing in to their amazing ability to fulfill their purpose on this planet. I work with business owners, coaches, corporate professionals in transition, or those that want to be. My business helps bring joy back to their lives by helping them survey their current environment, pull out the energy suckers and aim towards what they really want to be doing rather than holding back and stifling their lives. What sets me apart is that I’ve walked this journey myself, I’m a devoted student of self awareness and self care. I found myself wanting more in my early 30s and set out to actively find what made me happy and changed my lifestyle to go along with that. Now I feel like a whole new world has opened up, and I love that my clients feel that for themselves as well.
So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Jonatta Harmon and The Jonatta Toshira Brand and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with The Jonatta Toshira Brand .
Jonatta and I met at my last job in local government. We actually walked past each other for a year, speaking but not much small talk because we were both so incredibly busy. Little did I know that person would help strengthen me through one of the toughest times in my life.
We happened to finally get together for lunch one day and automatically I knew from her energy she was something special. She is very intuitive, so as we began to talk about life experiences I didn’t have to go into a lot of detail because she knew how I felt in a lot of cases.
After our first conversation once we reconnected again we talked in detail about our businesses and where we each were trying to go. She offered to help me with some branding work and the rest is history. A great relationship was formed where I was able to carve out more about who I am and what I do based on her prompts and ideas. Jonatta has a way of listening and then holding the person up to a mirror and also giving possibilities of what could be done.
The possibilities are endless – but that’s a good thing because it shows you literally the sky is the limit. There are no closed doors with Jonatta or her brand, everything is a positive open space in which you can create.
Jonatta was influential in inspiring me to see the light and strength within myself and my brand. Prior to working with Jonatta I was a little exhausted to say the least with some life challenges that I had to go through. She helped me to get my confidence back and really helped me concentrate on my God given ability to really grow and help my clients in a way that only I can.
As a result of working with Jonatta, I have found the courage to move forward in the gifts God has called me to. I have developed that courage due to her teachings being founded in the word of God. This helped me to realize the joy in completing my purpose here on earth.
I am a lot bolder in my position and my ask as an entrepreneur after completing the program. I know I have something that will help women and I’m determined to get it out there no matter what my circumstances are.
After working with Jonatta I felt energized to empower others for their breakthrough. I have become more visible in the industry and on social media as well as becoming a trusted source in my field.
To anyone who would consider hiring Jonatta as a coach I would say go for it headfirst. You won’t be sorry and you will get such a refreshing and delightful experience with someone who is heaven sent to address your needs thoughtfully and consistently.
