Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayla Ford.
Hi Jayla, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Where shall I begin…
Just a quirky and multitalented individual from the eastside of Chicago. I started my TikTok career in February of 2020. I found out about TikTok after losing my job to the pandemic. It was a super hard time for me because I love to make money and work hard so not having a job felt like my life was over. I remember making my first video just for fun and the next morning I woke up to 20k followers, boy was I happy. Seeing that many followers kept me motivated because I was able to cosplay and do what I loved, around that time anime was huge and I finally could fit in with other weebs such as myself. I got up every day and made a video. 4 hours of perfecting everything I did because that’s the Virgo in me. I had to be great at any content made and I did just that. Looking back at who I used to be compared to now? I could cry. I’m so proud of myself for staying motivated for the two years I’ve influenced even with the lack of support I had starting out, I never gave up. Now I’ve accumulated over 200k followers and took my model career serious.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has definitely been rough, I can tell you that. Coming into the spotlight humbled was a gift and a curse. I met some people that were no good for me, I helped people that didn’t deserve my help and I had to learn the hard way. I’m not used to being loved and admired by so many people all at once; it’s like I wanted to share that love back, be more vocal, be myself and being myself on the media hasn’t been the best but I can’t change myself for anyone not even strangers.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a content creator, a freelance model, an entrepreneur, editor and a digital creator.
I am most known for my modeling and content from TikTok. It’s what molded me into the confident person I am today. It opened so many doors for me, especially for my anime clothing brand “nuku’s closet”. I’ve worked with popular brands such as: shein, dollskill, rave wonderland, goli gummies, etc. I’ve also worked with big artists such as: summer walker and dababy.
What sets me apart from others is my versatility and confidence. I really love that I could pull off any look, any outfit and not feel insecure or funny about it. Growing up, I had a really hard time finding myself because I was around the wrong kind of people, I was insecure and wanted to fit in but the older I got? That all changed drastically. It’s like I became this new person I’ve learned to love better. Being that ideal fantasy and having that sex appeal that’s like “art” makes me feel godly.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I’ve always been a risk taker. Basically, my whole life revolved around taking risk because I wasn’t the type to give up. I was homeless a good three times in my life and still manage to get up, cry about it, wipe my tears and get to work. Some people may see it as too much for someone that had nothing but a suitcase and a purse but I say it was “hope” that kept me going. I couldn’t see myself losing no matter what circumstance I was in. I remember the time I was stranded in vegas in June and I had a shoot the same day. I got me a motel room and contemplated on what to do, after 30 minutes I got the uber and went to work. It was the hardest time of my life but no matter what I kept going!
