Today we’d like to introduce you to Kay Sarai.
Hi Kay, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my journey through esthetics pre-pandemic (2019) as high school graduation was two years away. I felt inspired to learn about skincare by the lack of diversity in the beauty industry. I saw so many people who I could not directly relate to, and slowly became frustrated by the disconnect. I made the decision to change the narrative for esthetics. Allowing myself to become a new face for skincare! I use my platform to inspire others and show another young person that we are welcome in the beauty industry.
As a dual enrollment student, I started esthetics school in 2021 and graduated in 2022. Balancing high school, a job and a beauty school was challenging at times but motivated me to strive for success. At the age of 18, I obtained an LLC for the business. After this point, we expanded our service menu and developed our skills. We began accepting clients in 2022 and have completed our first year in business! Being a 19-year-old black female entrepreneur; allows me to be in charge of my own success. Even when things get tough, I remember the people who have and continue to motivate me to be better!
Skin.By.Sarai comes from my name, this is a constant reminder of where I come from and how much I hope to accomplish. Our goal is to continue servicing all skin types and needs!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all, things have been tough sometimes. For example learning to manage a business, gaining a social media presence, and criticism can make you feel down. This industry can be extremely competitive and not everyone is wishing that you will succeed. However, I turn the negativity into motivation. Always reminding myself that so much good has come from the start of Skin.By.Sarai, how can a challenge stop me!
