Inspiring Conversations with Tanisha Webb of Little One Clothing & Accessories

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanisha Webb.

Hi Tanisha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi and thank you so much for this opportunity to share a little bit about myself and my journey as a business owner.  As you mentioned, I am Tanisha Webb.  I’m a wife, mother and proud entrepreneur.  As a mother, I am very sentimental!  I was not really able to part with anything that my children had… if their toe had been in it, I kept it! LOL!  One day, several years after our youngest was born, I gave a friend of mine a box of shoes for his son and I had an epiphany!  I realized that maybe I was at a point in my life where I could actually part with some of our children’s things that they no longer needed.  So, I started making small donations and then decided with the amount of inventory I had stored at our home, I could start an online business.  Thus, Little One Clothing & Accessories was born.  Our online store allows us to have an additional stream of income and provide another legacy for our children, all while providing other parents with affordable items for their little ones.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building an online business can be daunting!  Creating a website, taking/editing pictures, uploading inventory along with the pictures, figuring out shipping costs, marketing, etc… it’s a LOT!  I don’t have personal social media, so I had never really been on Facebook or Instagram outside of someone sending me a link to a picture or video.  So, I had to learn how to post, boost a post, etc…. and there is still PLENTY that I don’t know.  I always told my friends that I would only have social media if I started a business.  So here we are now with a Facebook Page and an Instagram account that a couple of my friends had to set up for me. LOL!  The other struggle is getting people to shop with you.  You have to market to the right audience and then convince them to shop with you over all of the other existing online stores including the large conglomerates like Amazon.  In addition, being an online thrift store selling new and gently used items, most times what you have to sell is one and done.  So, if there are not multiple sizes or several of the same item, a customer has to move on.  Definitely not a smooth road, but worth it to have your own business and be your own boss!  Plus, growth does come over time and we have been growing, so it’s a joy to reap the rewards of hard work and dedication!

We’ve been impressed with Little One Clothing & Accessories, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Little One Clothing & Accessories was launched on Memorial Day, May 31, 2021.  It is affectionately named Little One Clothing & Accessories because my father called me “little one” while I was growing up and still sometimes calls me that even though I am married with children. LOL!  Then of course the name was solidified with me having little ones of my own.  Our business is an online thrift store specializing in new and gently used items for children ranging from clothes, shoes, toys, books, school supplies, picture frames, to blankets, towels, bibs and more!  We have a little bit of everything even a few things for adults.  The purpose of our business is to provide quality and affordable “stuff” for parents to buy because we realize that children grow so fast!  So why spend so much money when they will be out of it before you know it!  We had brand new clothes and shoes at home that our children never even got to wear.  Our motto is: “Get More For Less… Shop For You Or Someone Else!”  This is to encourage people to shop with us whether you have your own children or not because practically everyone has a child in their lives… godchild, niece, nephew, little sister/brother, your friend’s child, etc…  What sets us apart is that we are very relatable and we think from a parent perspective to anticipate what our customers want/need.  We take creative pictures and give detailed descriptions to help customers picture their little ones having what we are selling.  We are most proud of providing a wonderful variety of items while making sure that our prices are affordable because we are here to save our customers money while not sacrificing quality.  It is a great advantage to subscribe to our website to receive coupons, but creating an account is even better!  When a customer creates an account, they can expect early shopping events, info regarding upcoming promotions, additional coupons, other saving opportunities, and more!  We like to run fun promotions that appeal to our customers so that they want to shop with us again and make us their go-to online store.  We also do in-person events throughout the year to give people a chance to shop with us face to face.  The in-person events allow us to engage with customers and sell items that may not even be on our website, so they are exciting and fun!  This year, we will launch a brand component to our business which will offer customers another way to shop with us.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think that people will continue to shop with online resellers and thrift stores because it allows them to again, save money, but also find unique things that larger stores won’t have available to them.  Shopping online continues to grow and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.  As far as Little One Clothing & Accessories, I see nothing but positive growth and becoming an even more established brand for our existing and future customers!
