Check Out Dominique Davis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Davis.

Hi Dominique, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I became an entrepreneur at 18 while I was still in high school. I started my first e-commerce company NuNique Hair back in 2017. Once I graduated high school, I continued my business. My business was growing fast to say it was my first time as an entrepreneur. Within two years I opened my first mini-store doubling my sales! I launched a second part of my company NuNique Boutique. I really enjoyed having a boutique because I felt I could be more of myself. I had my store for two years until I decided to move to Houston in January of 2021. I moved to Houston to discover myself more and decided if what I were doing was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I soon realized what I was doing was only a stepping stool for who I would become.

While I was in high school I took AP Art, which led to me always designing. I originally wanted to make heels and bags before I launched NuNique. I could not because it was too complicated and expensive at the time. So in August of 2021, I moved to Atlanta and I announced the closing of NuNique. Since then, I’ve been working on my company Dom Davis which is a mixture of class, streetwear, and couture high fashion. The products will consist of apparel, accessories, bags, and shoes. The products will showcase Dom’s imagination, her expressions, and the most refined qualities of Nola’s art and fashion. I plan to launch Dom Davis Spring/Summer 2023.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This road has not been smooth because I am new to this industry and very hard on myself. I only want to put out my best work. The biggest challenge was finding the right manufacturers with low MOQs and high quality. Once I found the manufacturer, I soon realized what I sketched wasn’t as easy as it looked, especially when it came to perfecting the fitting of the garments. I also ran into tech pack problems with my handbag and heels. I paid someone to make my tech pack for my bag and heels, soon realizing from the manufacturer that the sizing for certain things was off, resulting in me having to spend more money.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a fashion designer. I specialize in making high-quality fashion for women. I am known for being an entrepreneur. I am most proud of myself for taking the risk with my first business and knowing it was only a stepping stool for who I will soon become. What sets me apart from others is my creative thinking and my consistency with anything I do. I know that great things take time, and the only time I’m moving on is God’s time.
