Check Out Karhma Novak’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karhma Novak.

Hi Karhma, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello! I’m Karhma…a married momma of two who taught for 17 years. My family lives in a sweet small town south of Atlanta.  In 2013 we were part of a church who loved pouring into the community. We participated in a Christmas program our church was sponsoring. Our family purchased gifts for a little girl living in poverty in our community. When we went to her home to deliver the gifts, we were shocked by what we saw…holes in the floors and walls, no running water in the tub, and plastic in the windows where there should’ve been glass. That’s the day God changed everything. We began helping that little girl and her momma. People in our town heard what we were doing and they wanted to participate. We started receiving phone calls from folks who wanted to donate furniture, appliances, dishes, clothes…you name it! Our garage was full and a ministry was born.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As the ministry grew, we faced several challenges…finding vehicles with which to make deliveries, space to serve from, and resources to meet the needs of those we cared for.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The tiny nonprofit we started, Project 586, merged with another small nonprofit and The I-58 Mission was born; we are based on Isaiah 58:6. I’ve been given the privilege to serve as the mission’s Executive Director. I consider myself a local missionary. I’m grateful for what God started in my family’s heart and what has grown to fill a 10,000 sq foot building. There are many opportunities to love on people and we use every inch of this facility to provide clothes, food, home goods, baby gear, beds, and most importantly the love of Christ

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
God may plant the passion but we can also look to Him to make the provision.
