Meet Sarah Corbett of Rowan + Sage in East Atlanta Village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Corbett.

Sarah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Hi there! I’m a certified yoga teacher, herbalist and intuitive Tarot reader in the heart of Atlanta, GA. My journey into health and wellness began with years of living with chronic illness – eventually, diagnosed with Celiac Disease. While I was learning how to navigate my health struggles after being diagnosed, I discovered yoga and herbalism as powerful forms of self-care. The practice of bringing my mind into my body through yoga while also strengthening my muscles, weak from years of illness, was so transformative in my own life that I knew that becoming a teacher would allow me to help others. Since Celiac has no known cure and the doctors could afford me very little medical assistance besides telling me to go gluten-free, using plants as medicines were my greatest ally in healing myself. During this experience, I discovered my dharma, or purpose – that thing I was destined to do in this lifetime. My unique dharma is to facilitate healing and share my tools for self-care with others. So, what started out as years of unexplained pain, ultimately transformed into a platform for me to help others and empower them to heal themselves. That is what Rowan + Sage is all about!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Chronic illness always poses issues, no matter how hard we try to avoid flare-ups. I would say that my biggest struggle throughout the process was just maintaining my health. While eating gluten-free is very easy at home, there were years where I was living in chronic autoimmune crisis because of accidental cross-contamination at restaurants or friend’s houses. These flare-ups would result in nutrient deficiencies and panic attacks that made it hard to work or attend my certification classes sometimes. The biggest struggle has been to not lose hope and to remember that I am not the only one struggling with this. Seventy-five percent of women struggle with autoimmune diseases and the majority of our society lives disconnected to their bodies, minds and intuition. My experience could be disheartening at times, sure, but it was a way for me to connect with others and provide resources for their healing.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Rowan + Sage was founded by me and my partner, Ian Thorpe, as a way to share our lifestyle practices and handmade items to help others reconnect with their mind, body, and spirit. Our business combines herbal medicine, intuitive guidance, and handmade tools to help others create purposeful, intention-filled lives.

While we have a full shop of different offerings, I also work with people on an individual level. Through intuitive Tarot readings, I channel strategies and insights that empower others to create the life of their dreams. I offer additional support on their path through herbal allies for self-care and holistic yoga practices that combine postures with breathwork and meditation.

I am very proud that we have been able to create a business out of our mutual love for an intentional living and that it is helping other people, especially chronic illness sufferers, to reconnect to themselves and heal. That it is enhancing people’s relationship to the Earth, their intuition and helping them live from a heart-centered place. This work is so important and not very common in our fast-paced, digitally hyper-connected but emotionally chronically disconnected society. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to share it.

What were you like growing up?
Pretty much the same as I am today! Always in the woods, obsessed with the plants, and often found singing to the trees or talking to the animal spirits. As a kid, I was so fascinated by the natural world and spent every afternoon wandering the four-acre forest I grew up on in Marietta. As I got older, I began to forage in our community and spent time studying the plants, mushrooms and animals in our area. I spent most weekends and summers at Girl Scout camps, riding horses, doing outdoor activities, and eventually became a counselor and equestrian instructor at Camp Misty Mountain in Armuchee, GA. I’ve always had a passion for teaching others and doing work outside. My other interests revolved around music, which I began studying at a very young age, and led me to become a classically trained Pianist, Violist, and player of the guitar and mandolin. For the most part, I was very introverted as a kid, but I loved to participate in these activities that fed my creative soul.
