Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmen Denise.
Hi Carmen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I wish I had some elaborate or heartfelt story of how I came into acting but it literally fell in my lap. I was headed in the direction of legal studies & God apparently had another plan for me. I started at the age of 24 & pursued it ever since. I LOVE it!
I started teaching right out of college & that income alone was not cutting it. I was scrolling on Facebook and saw a casting call for a Tyler Perry movie and thought could be fun right? Wrong! But I needed the extra money. I just didn’t realize what it took just to even be background. Once I finished the day, I couldn’t wait to do it again. So I kept at it. Fast forward, I’ve done BG, features, co-star roles & more.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road toward any dream is difficult.
I would say the most difficult challenge for me is the ability to stay grounded. You hear constant No’s and it can sometimes break your spirit. Make you want to give it up. I’ve even had issues with having the support it takes to deliver this dream.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The name is Carmen-Denise & I’m an actress!
I am also a sketch artist (as a hobby) I one day plan to expand my art talents and share them with the world with my varsity/male clothing line, “Taylor East”
If I could act w/o the headache of bills and responsibilities, I’d definitely do it for free. I love the intense feeling of telling a story through my eyes. I focused more on Drama but eventually went to branch out into their genres as well. My most proud moment of acting was seeing myself on screen at one of my pilot screenings. Indescribable feeling!
Any big plans?
I’m more of an “in the moment” kind of girl however; I can see myself producing, writing and possibly directing one day.
