Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassady Fulbright. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Cassady Fulbright is an abstract artist with a Bachelor of Arts degree, concentrating on studio art and painting. Her artistic inspiration comes from travel and is rendered through a pixilated abstraction of photographs. She has a keen eye for color combinations and interactions between shapes and patterns. She believes she is only beginning her playfully responsive path and is excited to dedicate extensive time and research to these discoveries.
Born in Toccoa, Georgia, the artist found her true love of art after spending a year in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Immersed in art and artistic culture, Cassady discovered her deep appreciation and love for painting. Cassady accepted studies abroad at the John Cabot University in Italy. Her studies focused on Ancient Roman History and Monuments and Digital Photography. Europe broadened Cassady’s cultural perspectives and underscored the importance of diversity in life.
STATEMENT
“My paintings are a celebration of the experiences around me. Imagine this, whenever you break down life into individual moments, it feels effortless. However, when you look back at the decisions made and all of the reasons why things happened, life looks more complicated. My interest is in exploring the relationships between the simplicity of color and shape versus the complexity of the sum.
The goal is to understand that the two, life and art, are not mutually exclusive.”
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I didn’t always know that art was my “passion” or that it could be a career. I didn’t have any refined artistic abilities before college, so when I was in my first drawing class, I felt so embarrassed. I remember looking around the room and feeling so behind. It took all four years for me to experiment and find my style.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I grew up fishing with my dad and picked it back up during the pandemic. I was in my senior year of college when Covid hit, and so I spent my free time fly fishing in North Georgia and the Carolinas. I then took a couple of trips out west to Wyoming and Montana to catch trout. I was looking back through the photos that I had taken of the trout that I had caught on the Bighorn River in Montana. I started zooming in and inspecting all of the different colors and immediately felt inspired. I painted my first trout painting in September 2021 and haven’t stopped since. I am continuously inspired by the variety of colors and patterns on the fish that I paint. I set myself apart from others by simplifying photos to shapes and colors creating a “pixilated” composition.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I am planning an exhibition series that I want to show across the nation. It will be a year-long project to complete, so in that time, I will be looking for venues to host the series.
