Inspiring Conversations with Mimi (Marie) Sutphin of PlastiBeauti

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mimi (Marie) Sutphin.

Hi Mimi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I was in awe with my mom. She is just the most gorgeous woman. I used to watch her get ready to go out and she’d do her hair and her makeup to perfection. I would just think, “I can’t wait until she lets me play in this stuff”.

When I got to middle school, I used to babysit and she would let me spend my earnings however I wanted. I spent it on makeup and notebooks. I would do my makeup and plan out this beauty salon that I would own one day. I just wanted to make everyone feel how I felt watching my mom do her makeup, how I felt in makeup.

In high school, I really got into makeup and lash extensions. I started doing a few girl’s from school makeup and lashes. Then I posted my on Facebook that I was offering these services. My little side hustle really turned into my full-time job.

Now, I’ve just graduated cosmetology school, I have my own studio, and I’m relaunching my cosmetics brand in the spring. I’ve taken my business way further than I pictured and now I’m ready for my own salon so that’s what I’m working on next.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I started my business around the time I lost my uncle. He was literally my best friend and every dream I had, he believed in. In losing him, I felt like half of my dreams were gone because he wouldn’t be there to see them come to fruition or to remind me that what I wanted wasn’t too big.

Overcoming depression, lack of motivation, all while being an entrepreneur, definitely humbled me. Eventually, I realized I was letting those things win and decided not to let them define me. It took a while but in 2021, pushed myself to commit to my dreams again, but this time for myself. I’ve been winning since, one accomplishment at a time.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about PlastiBeauti?
In the general sense, I’m a full-time beauty professional, specializing in makeup and lash extensions. But for me, everything I do is an art. What really grew my business were my art projects that I would work on. I would use all of the traction from my sewing, my photoshoots and my online content and drive it to my business. My business is really my outlet of artistic expression for all my passions. My clients can really get a fully personalized experience. From getting their makeup done, lashes done, a custom sewn item made, and photoshoot planned and executed. They can even get classes from me for make or lashes as well. I feel like that’s what sets me apart.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Aside from my beauty services and products that I offer, I also sew and create content. Anyone could reach out on Instagram @PlastiBeauti or @PlastiqueDaBarb, like share or comment to support. Or reach out to plan a project.
