Hidden Gems: Meet Jacey Kemp of House Of The Creative Junkie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacey Kemp.

Hi Jacey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Jacey Kemp but I also go by Doses. Im 29 and a soufside baby. I also stayed in many parts of Atlanta growing up. When I was a little girl, writing and sketching Outfit sets was the two ways I knew how to express myself. Creativity is my outlet and my light. I was big on fashion and makeup. The hair shows and fashion shows, you could catch me watching them. Even watched the pageant shows with my mom growing up. I was also a big ANTM Fan. My mom would always DIY something and make it anew. My mom was the best at making something out of nothing. She is literally my idol and Bestfriend. Growing up watching her, I end up becoming a ball of creativity. I would try things out of the norm and out of the box with clothes. I would take my sketch pad and make outfit sets at my babysitter house. It naturally came to me.

I love when people feel their best and look their best, how it radiates through them. I want to show people that fashion isn’t made for one size or a specific type of person. That’s why my slogan is what it is. “Fashion Is Thicker Than Flesh.” That feeling is priceless. It’s a journey that helped me love myself more. It’s something that’s the icing on the cake of everyone’s confidence. It’s an enhancer not a definer.

Fashion isn’t a comfort zone but it’s our zoning area.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think an smooth journey is possible. A road could be laid perfectly and still have a crack in it from settling in. As long as you make it to your destination safe, then it was worth the ride, right? The conflict came in once confidence wasn’t in the room.

I love Fashion, but I didn’t love me enough. I barely had my faith so I couldn’t believe in myself. When you don’t love yourself, how can you love what you do. That was one of the biggest struggles when building my brand, I allowed my head to get warped into the hype. What you should be and what you should look like. I had to learn how to work with what I got and embrace my curves and the curves that I don’t have. When you have something that you don’t like about yourself, that does always stem from low self-esteem. I don’t think people realize how low self-esteem is like a virus. It could start from one thing but spread over to something else. It’s unsettling so you can never feel still. You’ll have the urge to fix something or be hard on yourself. I didn’t give myself a chance. Mental health is so important.

I reached a point where I had to fight for myself. I had to fight for what I love, and I had to fight for the love I had left inside of me. This journey lead me into my purpose and showed me how in life, you just have to find what works for you in every aspect. Fashion, work, relationships, and even investments. I started to invest in myself, with deposits of motivation, love, words of affirmation, and I took time with myself. I started really loving me. I got to know me. Once me, myself, and I met up, we created a group chat of self-love.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters to me most? That’s a funny question to ask an empath. No seriously, I love seeing people happy. That’s rare to come by nowadays. So, to see that someone happy, living freely is a breath of fresh air. When people look good, they feel good. I love being able to provide that. I love bringing out that confidence in people that they were scared to dig for or couldn’t find. Not to sound too cliché, but we are all special. It’s so true, we all have something in us to help us be our best self in this lifetime. Life is hard enough, so I hate when we are hard on ourselves about things that we can change. I don’t mean in a way of nip and tuck. I mean in a way of shift. Shuffle the closet, the hair, and put yourself in a CAS system because you are your own character. You are your own being. No one can tell you how to enhance yourself. No one can tell you how to be your best self, but you. However, you can get guidance in that. I like being a Creative Guidance System. I just don’t want anyone to ever feel low about themselves because they don’t look like the most idolized type of person. I’ve been there. It’s not fun. I want to terminate that feeling in any person I help.
