Meet Shondra Carter and Angel Armour of Events Affinity

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shondra Carter and Angel Armour.

Hi Shondra and Angel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We began playing with the idea in 2020, during the time when COVID was rampant. With everything being shut down and us having a lot of free time, we had a lot of time to brainstorm our idea of starting Events Affinity. We’ve always had a knack for creativity and decorating. It’s something we’ve always enjoyed doing, so we figured we’d make it into a business. Being that this was during the time of a global pandemic, we understood that actually planning and decorating events was probably not going to pan out well considering people were socially distant. That’s where we came up with the idea to expand beyond event planning and add services such as gift baskets and care packages. We saw that as an opportunity to get Events Affinity on the map even during the pandemic. Once COVID began slowing down and people were ready to come together again and start having events, we already had clientele. Up til this point, we’ve put together tons of gift baskets and planned/decorated a lot of baby showers. We’ve recently expanded our services to include chocolate-covered treats (Oreos, strawberries, cake pops, etc). We are slowly but surely progressing with Events Affinity and are working toward greater things.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
COVID has probably been the biggest stumbling block. With people not gathering together to do events, there wasn’t much we could do in terms of actual event planning. We have had success with gift baskets and care packages. It was a way for our customers to connect and show love to their loved ones due to not being able to see them. As COVID began to slow a bit and people gained comfort in gathering, we were able to plan a few different types of events. Other than that, getting the word out about Events Affinity to build our clientele is what we are currently working on.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Events Affinity provides a number of services: event planning, decorating, chocolate-covered treats, gift wrapping, gift baskets, care packages, balloon decor, etc. Our goal as a brand is to provide a breath of fresh air to the event planning market. We strive to distinguish ourselves and deliver service that leaves our clients in awe.

Events Affinity is devoted to introducing remarkable service and creating memorable events for each customer. We embrace the opportunity to demonstrate the skill and productivity of our services by exceeding the expectations of our clients.

We coordinate all the moving parts: venue, catering, decorating, music, and other details both before and after events. We are best known for our balloon decorations and gift baskets. We mostly get hired for balloon arches, but we also do garlands, balloon columns, and other balloon arrangements. We can put together a gift basket for any occasion and our clients love them. We also have a fairly quick turnaround time for orders. That, coupled with our excellent customer service, allows us to retain customers.

We are most proud of our ability to keep Events Affinity going, especially through the pandemic. We found other services that could be used outside of event services. We are forever grateful to our clients that have used our services and stuck with us because they have helped keep this small family-owned event planning business afloat.

What sets us apart is that we offer services beyond that of typical event planning companies. We also offer our service(s) at reasonable prices. Because we do everything ourselves, outside of some catering duties, we are able to cut the cost of outsourcing, thus saving the customer money in their overall budget.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Our advice is to be patient and keep pushing. Building a business is a process and it takes time. Even if you’re not getting the support you think you should be getting, if you keep working, you’ll run into the right opportunity.
