Today we’d like to introduce you to Myloreal Anderson. He shared his story with us below:
Myloreal Anderson was born on February 10, 1986 and raised in California. At the age of four, he began his martial arts journey learning Kyokushin while training under Terry Hotchkin at the YMCA. Decades later, Myloreal Anderson has been inducted into the Black Karate Federation Hall of Fame in 2019 and the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2016 and 2021.
While keeping the teachings of the true essence of martial arts, Soke Myloreal Anderson has found his own expression of martial arts through his years of training. In 2010, after twenty years of training in martial arts, he founded MIKIO SURAI Martial Arts International at the age of 24. MIKIO SURAI bridges the gap between traditional and new-age martial arts. MIKIO SURAI is a great way to learn social skills, develop self-discipline, raise mental awareness of your surroundings, and overcome physical challenges. This martial arts system focuses on the needs of each student and handles every individual with patience. MIKIO SURAI allows you to apply martial arts to real life and teaches the importance of family, morally upright standards of living, survival, and tactical training. The amazing thing about this style is that just like life, it is always evolving, enabling you to adapt to any situation. It is a true style that nurtures the heart, mind, body, and soul of a person by encompassing the 24 written laws and the 12 unwritten laws for life. The style has had 8,000 + students walk through their doors since opening, teaching students that “Martial Arts Is More Than Fighting, It’s A Lifestyle.”

His life goal has been to become a tactical, combative, and weapons training instructor for the government, law enforcement, armed forces, and civilians with aspirations to own one of the top training facilities in the world.
To date, Myloreal Anderson has avidly worked towards that goal, currently serving as the National Training Director for the National African American Gun Association (NAAGA), serving as a Police Officer, and by being the founder and owner of MIKIO SURAI Martial Arts International and T.A.F.F. Training Academy.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the struggles along the way was learning to take big risks because growing up, I feel we are taught to only be worker bees in school. I had to break that mentality and get out of my comfort zone, learning to be comfortable being uncomfortable. Another struggle was learning to trust my gut and following my intuition. Too many times we second-guess ourselves even if we really don’t know what will happen. My last and most difficult struggles were setting and being consistent with working towards my goals, taking responsibility for my actions whether good, bad, or indifferent, learning how to stop procrastinating, and most of all don’t try, always do. So though I would not describe it as a relatively smooth road, I will say it was a road worth traveling.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My life goal has been to become a tactical, combative, and weapons training instructor for the government, law enforcement, armed forces, and civilians with aspirations to own one of the top training facilities in the world. Everything I have done has been completed with that goal in mind. Personally, I feel I have achieved that goal. I am currently serving as the National Training Director for the National African American Gun Association (NAAGA), I continue to serve as a Police Officer, and I founded one of the best martial arts systems and training academies in the world: MIKIO SURAI Martial Arts International and T.A.F.F. Training Academy.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love about Atlanta is simply the people, the energy and vibes that I get.
I still remember the first time I ever visited Atlanta in the early 2000s and I told myself I’m moving here one day. I made that move in 2009 and I don’t have any regrets. The only thing that I don’t love is that I didn’t move sooner. I’ll always be from California but this is my home.

What an amazing story. Truly inspirational testimony on what you can accomplish by believing in yourself. Don’t be afraid to take risk and most importantly, don’t give up on yourself. This is amazing.
