Hi Kito, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started collecting watches in high school and I remember the first watch I bought. You could see the gears moving in it and I thought that was unusual but shortly after buying it, the watch stopped working. I thought it needed a battery, so I took it to this watchmaker in the mall where I worked to get it repaired. I could see his eyes light up when I handed him the watch. He asked me, “do you know what type of watch this is?” I wasn’t sure what type it was, but I knew it looked cool and distinctive. Well, the watchmaker explained to me that the watch I bought was a mechanical skeleton watch and it didn’t need a battery. Instead, I needed to wind the watch for it to work. He said you can always tell the quality of a watch by the craftsmanship of the watch movement and my watch’s movement was rare. He said they didn’t make watches like mine anymore.
From that day, I was a watch enthusiast. I collected many timepieces over the years and for my wedding, I knew my outfit wouldn’t be complete without a unique timepiece around my wrist. I also wanted to give a watch to my groomsman, dad, and wife’s uncle. I searched for several months but I could not find anything that I truly liked. Everything in the department stores looked the same and nothing stood out. I settled for a “cookie cutter” name brand watch from the department store for my wedding but that sparked the idea that I should design my own watch; one that would stand out. Shortly after, I created Gamma Six, a watch company that would craft exquisite high-quality and affordable timepieces.
I believe when it is time to stand out you should have a choice that matches your personal style, that is affordable, and that receives compliments. I wanted my watches to be anything but “cookie cutter,” mediocre or average. My collection had to be aesthetically beautiful and artistic.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth ride. When I started Gamma Six, I expected a few bumps along the way. It is difficult to introduce a new business to people. Primarily because you must build trust. Since the name is new, I can’t rely on reputation alone. I must let the product speak for itself. I need to put a Gamma Six into as many customers’ hands as I can to build trust and confidence in the brand. Once you develop a reputation that speaks volumes among watch collectors and enthusiasts, that is where you build momentum and start to grow as a company. This takes time but Gamma Six is building a stellar reputation one customer at a time.

Presidente

The Ellington
The Ellington comes in three beautiful shades of natural wood surrounding the dial and band. Dress it up or down, the wood grain provides a smooth finish that can be paired with any style or occasion. It has a 44 mm natural wood case and 23 mm width natural wood band. The features include a multifunction chronograph, Japan Quartz Movement (battery), splash resistant and luminous hands.
Athena
Is the women’s version of The Ellington. Athena is elegantly crafted with three shades of natural wood on the case and band. The dial comes in silver, pink and black. The dial softens the wood tones to provide a style that is unparalleled. Athena has a 40 mm natural wood case and 18 mm width natural wood band. The features include multifunction chronograph, Japan Quartz Movement (battery), splash resistant and luminous hands.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
As I child, I was a quiet kid who loved art and science. So, it was only natural to combine the two once I got older. I started drawing in middle school and by high school, I was pretty good at it. Regarding science, I was into everything that went fast: cars, jets, trains, etc. In college, I started painting and never stopped. Painting is my happy place. I’m constantly challenging myself to paint something more elaborate. Watch designing came later in life, as I mentioned before, it’s kind of the sweet spot between art, style, and science. It is what I enjoy. Watch designing combines everything that I love: art, style, and science.
