Hidden Gems: Meet Steven Presley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Presley.

Steven, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was first introduced to Digital Media in 2014 during my first semester in college. Similar to others, I discovered and familiarized myself with the basic knowledge by watching informational and tutorial videos on YouTube. After doing in-depth research, I decided to purchase my first camera (Canon Rebel XS) and a lighting kit. My intentions were to find a hobby that would occupy my free time to remain productive while in college. As I continued to learn more about Digital Media, specifically Photography, I started showing up to special events for my family volunteering to capture special memories. With just a few of these experiences, what was supposed to be a hobby eventually turned into one of my passions. My knowledge continued to expand with each experience which resulted in receiving great feedback. Being incredibly surprised with the feedback, I decided to go into business that would specialize in providing photography services in 2015 shortly after purchasing my equipment.

As the years progressed I continued to broaden my knowledge with digital media, which led to the renaming of my business from Steven Presley Photography to Steven Presley Productions. This transition paved the way to being exposed to different environments and even being the ministry lead for the Media team at my church. Stepping into this industry that I didn’t know much about helped me discover how creative I can be.

Now I own a business that I find joy in by providing a simplified solution to my clientele’s needs. Offering services such as Photography, Videography, and Graphic Design. My goal is to bring simplicity to your everyday digital media needs.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Jumping into this industry without having any connections did present some difficulties. The biggest challenge was remaining steadfast during my initial discovery with photography. Being amazed and encouraged by the work of other photographers, I started to compare my progress/success to others simply because I admired and wanted to be where they were. That eventually created a level of discouragement that almost made me quit altogether. However, I learned how to love what my mind visioned and what I created. It was not always an easy road but as I progressed I also learned how to be confident in my work because it is a form of art.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Within my business, my goal is to provide a solution that simplifies what your digital media needs are. The best part about being in business is my intake process. When onboarding clients, I get the opportunity to learn more about them. In some cases, it even allows me to discover more needs that require a solution outside of what they may have initially booked my services for. This allows me to understand who I’m working with, what results they are seeking, and how I can be of better service to them. I specialize in Photography and also offer services for Videography and Graphic Design. Over the past nine years, my proudest moments would consist of seeing my work being publicized for Consumer and Commercial businesses. My desire to satisfy digital media needs is what keeps me going and noticeable. I want current and future clientele to understand that my goal isn’t just to deliver a service, it’s also to create a memorable experience while providing a solution that satisfies their vision.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson that I have learned on this journey is to always seek clarification on what is expected and what can be delivered. Through trial and error, I’ve learned that it’s okay to be honest when accepting or declining work regardless of the reasoning. In business, people tend to remember how they are treated when they are investing their resources in return for a service. It’s important to make sure that my clients are satisfied with the provided solution and that the experience is worth what they expected.
