Conversations with Jada McGee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jada McGee.

Hi Jada, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always been very creative. I remember always cutting my Barbie doll’s hair or trying to make “hair creams” in the bathroom with just everyday products as a child. I’ve always loved to draw as well. Both were outlets to expressing my emotions because I was such a quiet and introverted child. As I got older, I leaned more toward hair than art. I felt like that career could take me farther than art (at the time). I enrolled in Paul Mitchell the School in Murfreesboro, TN and from there I never looked back. Now that I’m older, I like to balance the two. They definitely go hand in hand.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I’ve dealt with a lot of self-doubt, always wondering am I good enough or why am I not in the same place as the next person. I’ve also dealt with jealousy from peers that I thought were my closest friends but internally were praying on my downfall. That same doubt is what drives and pushes me to be the best that I can be. I always try to turn a negative into a positive. Hard work always pays off and what God has planned for you, no one else can take away.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a professional hairstylist and I have my own suite in Smyrna, Ga under the name Jada Works Miracles. I specialize in Sew Ins, Tape Ins, Microlinks, Silk Presses and overall healthy hair care. I take pride in the fact that I genuinely care about my clients. If they’re going through something, I can feel that. When they sit in my chair, I want them to be able to relax and not think about the stress of everyday life, even if it’s only for a couple of hours. I’m also a portrait artist. I specialize in realism & stylized art. I love portraits because it’s your way of expressing what you see. Little characteristics that other people may not notice. Every little detail counts…

How do you define success?
I define success as happiness. When you’ve found happiness within your career, you’ve won. Think about it if you’re miserable with what you’re doing you can’t be your best self. When you’re happy with your purpose, you’re grateful for every opportunity that comes your way.
