Check Out Sophia Philogene’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Philogene. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Sophia Philogene is a clinical accredited mental health therapist and founder of Wisdom’s House Counseling and Consulting Agency, which was established in 2014 to support and advocate for individuals suffering silently from depression, anxiety, bipolar, excessive emotional instability, and trauma.

Sophia completed graduate studies in Clinical Social Work at the University of Central Florida with a minor in nonprofit management. Through college, she found her niche after she noticed a series of individuals “coming out” with secrets they battled with for years. As a result, Wisdom’s House was birth to provide counseling to assist those that dealt with life struggles by remaining secretive of their daily battles. Her goal is to inform individuals they can receive healing through the power of confession, counsel, forgiveness, and accepting the power to be free. She is gilded and passionate about assisting those in reaching their full potential by living a purpose-driven life.

She and has over ten years of experience working with chronically homeless and mentally ill populations. She has also worked in several ministries within the religious sector and have assisted in their recovery with church parishioners for over twenty years.

Sophia has worked as an addiction counselor to a clinical therapist at various medical and mental health institutions within the metropolitan area of Atlanta, Orlando and Miami, where she began her pursuits in social services. She is gilded and passionate to bring mental health awareness to church-based communities and religious institutions. Her purpose is to assist individuals and families who desire to be free from emotional and mental instability.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My business took a sabbatical in 2018-2022 due to the sudden loss of my mother. I never thought I understood grief until that lost. Since then, I have been able to use my personal loss as a strength in my practice to assist those that have been impacted by grief.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in working with individuals with depression. I utilize a strength base perspective to revive the greatness that’s already inside of us. Most of my clients call me ‘friend or Doc’. I want my clients to feel at ease and comfortable in sessions. I may scream out, “Girl!” or “What happened” when starting sessions.

I am Haitian- American! While seeking therapy after the lost of my mother, I realized most therapists were not aware of any Caribbean base religions, customs or practice. I found myself over-explaining the culture vs the issue. As a culturally based therapist, I utilize my experience from my Haitian family along with many culture experiences gained living in Miami for over 20 years.

Any big plans?
In the future, my goal is to have a wellness center called Wisdom’s House. Each room will be catered to a specific need for emotional wellness.

This summer, my goal is start women groups with meetings in parks within the city of Atlanta. The first series of groups will be a support group for women battling reproductive issues such as infertility, PCOS, fibroids, etc…

I want to make Wisdom’s House easy and affordable so everyone can receive emotional health.
