Today we’d like to introduce you to Chandler Rouse.
Hi Chandler, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my graphic design business during my college years at Georgia Southern University. Things just began as a way for me to make a little bit of money to do normal college kid things but shortly blossomed into a career for myself. I started out by designing flyers for the organizations that I was part of on campus at the time. My friends and line sisters would always encourage me to turn this into a business because I was getting pretty good at it. With that push, I started to market myself as a graphic designer and moved into designing logos and print items, in addition to flyers. I worked in my business until the end of my senior year and it was time to start making moves for my upcoming graduation. My bachelor’s degree was in Psychology and I had a few job shadowing opportunities in the field that showed that this was not the route for me. I remember calling my mom crying because I didn’t know where to go from here and I knew she would help me. She actually ended up doing the opposite and just left things at “Well, you better figure it out then!” and hung up the phone. We ended up speaking again and she reminded me that since I’ll have more time after graduating, I could run my business full-time. I was so taken aback by this because I never considered the opportunities that could come with going full-time in graphic design. After graduating, I did exactly what I planned and it has been history ever since. I’m so grateful for the opportunities and people I’ve worked with over the last three years and have learned so much.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey of becoming a graphic designer and even operating a design business has not been easy. From mastering tricky design skills, establishing my own design style and difficult clients, I appreciate these struggles. Each of these struggles has helped me focus on the type of work I enjoy and excel most in a while also finding the types of clients I like to work with.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a brand and graphic designer. I specialize in upgrading service-based businesses and personal brands’ social media pages through graphic design but I offer other services as well. My services can be of help to any service provider, no matter what they step they are in their business journey. If they are just starting out and need branding for their business, I have a service for that. If they plan to start teaching a course and need marketing materials to advertise it, there’s a service for that.
I think what sets me apart from others is also what makes me the most proud of in my businesses and it is that I like to educate my clients. Not just on what they need but on what I’m designing for them, why I chose certain elements and how will it get them the results that they’d like. I rarely ever send designs to my clients without a great deal of insight and explanation as to why their designs were completed how they were.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Surprisingly, I didn’t grow up with any super artistic abilities or interests in designing. Instead, I was more into science, the solar system and learning about the weather. I would love to do puzzles about the solar system and read the morning newspaper weather report.
